Title.
So many tank modernization variants introduce APUs. As far as I get it, I guess it’s to power electronical systems of the tank like thermals, autoloaders, turret traverse while the main power unit (engine) is shut down.
Why can’t this be introduced in-game? It is often mentioned in various info sources (unlike things like armor, numbers of engine power, turret traverse that community copes about non-stop). This shouldn’t even neccesarily be op and make the tank fully functional while silent, say, just to increase the time till the power fully dies by a minute or around.

They have modeled APUs on a few helicopters recently but I don’t think they do anything yet. Maybe theres hope for tanks to get them too
Game balance mostly. Remember WT is a game not a simulator.
Also.
Most APUs and the ones I’m familiar with (M1s) are there to provide a way to save fuel and engine hours when not directly in combat (on watch etc.). You would never shut off your engine and ability to maneuver IRL combat situations. That is totally a WT gaming thing.
Also also;
Most APUs are NOT silent.
This is already a thing in the game. Try test driving a modern tank and turn the engine off, there is a battery that slowly counts down as the battery runs out, if you turn on thermals its going down faster, if you turn the turret it goes down faster, etc, etc.

That is the “batteries” not an APU. An APU would allow you to maintain turret speed etc. effectively indefinitely.

Some do have the APU as well. Perhaps not implemented to it’s fullest in terms of game mechanics, but it’s there.

damage model and actual mechanic are veeeeery different things.

I dont think balance is the problèm nowadays, I think every nation has them.
T-80U, Leopard 2PL, Abrams, French tanks (though I think only Leclerc Tropicalisé got it, but a minimum of research can prove which tank has or has not, one), etc etc.
How loud are they, compared to engines?
It has nothing to do with game balance. it’s not a feature in-game period.
War Thunder and DCS are as much simulators as all simulators are.

Not even close unless its a Loonie-Tunes sim.

On the M1, think of the loudest most obnoxious lawn mower you’ve ever heard.
I hear a lawn trimmee RN and I could hear it less than a quarter away while WW2 diesel engine can be heard by away of like 500-1000m. Would be quiet enough in War Thunder I believe
