Gaijin, seriously — what kind of decision is this?
The Swiss Air Force absolutely operates AIM-120 AMRAAMs on their F/A-18C/D Hornets. This isn’t speculation, this is publicly documented and confirmed in multiple official sources, including defense procurement reports, Swiss parliamentary documents, and even footage from official Swiss Air Force exercises. You can find countless sources online that confirm the presence of AIM-120B and later C variants in Swiss inventory.
So why in the world would you add a Swiss F/A-18 to War Thunder and intentionally omit the AMRAAMs?
What is the logic here? This isn’t just a gameplay/balance question — this is an issue of historical accuracy, something Gaijin prides itself on. And yet, here we are, with a 4th-gen multirole fighter fielded in air policing missions and modern IADS exercises, stuck with AIM-7P Sparrows like it’s the early ‘90s. This isn’t “balanced realism” — it’s deliberate downgrading.
If the concern is balancing ARH missiles at top tier, then adjust the BRs or balance the radar/missile dynamics properly. But don’t butcher real-world loadouts and pretend it’s accurate.
Players who care about aviation, realism, and fair gameplay deserve better than this. Give the Swiss Hornet its AMRAAMs — the same missiles it has been flying with for over two decades.
It is accurate though. Weapons pylons are filled with historically accurate weapons, even if they’re not the ones you personally prefer.
@ShadowCaT
So because War Thunder prioritizes historical accuracy of vehicles to manufacturer specifications, balance, and realism that means the game is going to die? lol
Gaijin doesn’t care about having accurate weaponry, Sometimes they give planes stuff they couldn’t use (R-27ERs for the Mig-29s), they give planes stuff they only used for training and not in service (Aim-9Ls on the F-4F and British phantoms), or omits stuff entirely for no reason at all (Aim-9P-4s/5s on new Swiss planes).
Gaijin does not prioritize historical accuracy, balance or realism. Stuff like the topic of this thread shows exactly how they don’t.
No, War Thunder doesn’t prioritise historical accuracy of vehicles to either of
the manufacturer specifications (No AIM-120 to SAAF Gripen)
or balance (British Phantom, which doesn’t have either historical AIM-9L or unhistorical AIM-7F)
or realism (F-5C, which travelled time for grabbing their countermeasure pod)
Redfor (Germany, Soviets and China) do not have any 12.0+ Premiums. I guess the Siwss F-18 was just the best idea they could come up with for a relatively easy 12.3/12.7 range premium
It‘s not about that. They could‘ve just added it to the german tech tree at 14.0 with Amraam‘s. Ofc they wont do a 14.0 premium atm but why do another fucking copy of the F18 early
Only reason I bought it is I play germany and it doesn’t have a single fox 1 slinger with more than 2 missiles and probably will never see one since their phantoms don’t get sparrows. Imo germany has really bad/mid planes from 11.3-13.0, im just not a fan of the mig23/29 since they only get 2 bvr missiles and really aren’t fun to play in how arb is currently which I think heavily favors missile buses.
People also complain they didn’t need the swiss tree but their air has been pretty dogwater until the typhoon or at least the ICE was moved down at modern BRs, would have been nice to get these planes a while ago but I guess at least now the tree is more fleashed out for newer players, and the only things worth playing are a handful of ussr copypaste. At least now its more than just 3 ussr copypaste worth playing even if its just more copypaste.
Their airforce was crushed to oblivion after the war so they actually do need the copy paste, and all they have is the tornado which we only get the awful 2 9L variants for years and the typhoon.
