Don’t know where you’ve been but the US has been top dog since the F-14A has been introduced and closest they have been to not being the best is with the Eurofighter coming to the game.

that would have been great the past year or so while the US dominated but instead of allowing other nations to catch up they kept adding better and better jets with little to no vehicles being added with the same capabilities
Because having best SPAA covering their a*s with fox 3 capable CAS aren’t enough for them so they need better jet and better missile while other don’t need better missile yeah that fair lol
77-1 isn’t better than the AMRAAM, it only really brings them within spitting distance of parity in optimal launch positions. Which the 77-1 will never achieve on account of the launch platform. All 77-1 does is give credence to MICA needing improved Range.

It’s pretty balanced all things considered. The launch platform matters a lot and Russia has a grand total of one aircraft that can launch the 77-1, which isn’t the best BVR platform in the slightest, whereas the 120 and PL-12 have platforms that are really good for BVR. The Hornet isn’t the best BVR bus due to its lackluster speed, that’s fine it’s still really fun to play even if it’s not meta, and it can still do well. This is nowhere near as bad as say the ER vs 7M days except Multipathing is nowhere near as effective

The F-15E is the last plane to need a new bvr missile.
The F-18C (Finland) could probably use one with it’s other disadvantages (no hmd) and the F/A-18C late is meh, but the F-15E is already good enough at bvr.

i would argue during that time, while ER and 7M have a giant gap in performance, it mattered very little. with multipath at 100m it was extremely easy to just ignore both Sparrow and ER and play the game. Radar missiles weren’t META at that time, IRCCM Fox-2s were hard meta on a nimble platform like Gripen or F-16C. BVR gameplay at that time was more or less dead not because of missile stats but because you will get sent to the hangar from 7M or 27ER launched from the deck that you can’t do anything against because of multipathing.

That’s fair enough, I just think it’s more offset by the gap in performance is far less than that to where the lessened effectiveness of multipath is not as much of a deal in terms of balance. It makes the need to learn how to notch and low level flying important but that’s on the player more than the jet (although larger less maneuverable jets do worse).

i was just replying to the ER and 7M situation that you mentioned. In general i agree that current balance is pretty fair. I would love to have 77-1 on a platform with better performance tho.

Yeah I agree with your assessment on it, and I agree I’d like to see a platform that’s more suited to BVR than the SM. I haven’t played USSR high tier, save the 33, but I’d like to look more into the options for that. Perhaps the Mig-31

The SPAMRAAM was and still is dominating ARB since the moment it was introduced to the game. And the R77 was dogshit compared to it. (alongside with all the other ARH missiles) The only difference is now that the Russian planes also have a viable missile, but it’s still inferior.
The AIM-120 is objectively the best and most versatile missile in the game to this day. The only missile that can outperform it is the French MICA-EM and only in very specific CQC scenarios because of the thrust-vectoring otherwise the AIM-120 beats everything.
So yeah, literally nothing has changed, and the AIM-120 is still the best FOX-3 missile in the game. But now you don’t get to seal club everybody uncontested.

where were you when this happened to everyone who wasn’t flying the F-15c/e? EVERYONE (including su27sm) was forced to defend themselves first because they were always at a disadvantage against f15s flying at mach jesus shooting aim120s.

I love how americans like to say russia ruled the “R27ER” era when multipathing was at 100m and the MiG-29 was receiving FM nerfs after FM nerf while the F-16 was better buffed after buffed after buffed… here we are today where its obvious the F-16 is superior lmao
USA has dominated this game IN GENERAL in the air since like 2019 at minimum. The fact other nations participate in the leapfrogging at top tier does not matter in the slightest.

There was even a recent one of US dominance too when (then) undertiered Iranian F-14s forced everyone on the defensive, only if you had the appropriate RWR to actually defend against it lol
