as the title says, why does the Arado 234 B-2 (WB-151) exist?
i pondered this at release, and even more so this coming update.
the whole reason for making it a seperate premium vehicle (for 60 euros mind you), was that the single modification of the WB-151 was a drastic enough change to warrant a higher br.
in the post for the vehicle itself it was stated that it wasn’t possible to add this to the normal Arado 234 B-2 for this reason.
but with the announcement of custom battleratings this whole argument and the entire existence of this vehicle has been nullified.
and these updates being one after another, i have a hunch internally they also would have known about custom battle ratings right?
i find this kind of backhanded.
so now the question for me stands, should the premium version of the Arado 234 B-2 keep existing, be removed? or should the tech tree version also get the WB-151 together with custom battleratings specially for this modification?
Custom Battle ratings is only for armament that is already compatible but not added for balance (the Bison was always able to use R-77, it just didn’t get it because it’d push the BR up uncomfortably high), the cannons are not compatible with the regular Arado so it wouldn’t qualify.
Confused it with incompatible, was thinking about something else, oopsie :(
this is quoted directly from the vehicle blog post:
“Currently, we’re only planning this gunpod to be available on this special variant. It is compatible with the regular Ar 234 B-2 in the tech tree, but the addition of the gunpod would result in a Battle Rating change, and the regular Arado fits very well into the 6.3 lineup and we don’t want to push it out of that range for now.”
This. Both the premium and TT one should get the modification. You get a booster with the premium one and there’s also probably a few other differences.
Gaijin’s trend of adding premiums with improved capabilities than their TT counterparts is nothing new, and still more egregious in cases like the Su-39, which until this monday, was at the same BR as it’s tt counterpart despite having a vastly more developed A2G kit and a radar.
Plenty of other examples of this (BMD-4M vs BMD4M2, T-80U vs T-80UE1, Chally 2 OES vs TES, etc), and it should stop imo, the tt variant should always be better by some margin
I think its valid to be added to the original Arado since this is now a viable solution, I do think it might take a bit since they will likely want to test and finetune this mechanic on a small selection on aircraft rather than pushing everything that could qualify for it.
I don’t think it makes it invalid, a Premium Arado I imagine is pretty nice for some people. I hope it also gets said dynamic BR too if thats the case so it can fit into the 6.3 linup.
I mean, a fair amount of premiums are literally identical to the TT version but with different textures and sometimes camouflage nets. Those premiums still get bought, for example the M1A1 HC.
