I did write this post after several losses playing said MiG-29 so if I’m wrong I apologize
I find that often whilst playing USSR air, whenever I choose BRs from 13.0 and up, jets produced by the Sukhoi bureau seem to be superior to those designed by MiG. MiG jets often have severely nerfed flight models, and are in some cases worse than any of their competition, take the MiG-29 (9-13) for example, and let’s compare it to the Su-27.
The MiG-29 (9-13): Can carry… 2x R-27ER and 4x R-73, or 6x R-73 (W/O R-27ER), 2x R-27ET (sacrificing all R-27ERs)
Has an extremely nerfed flight model that is barely anything like its real life one (this has been discussed several times)
Has limited (60) CMs
Keep in mind, the MiG-29 suffered with R-60MKs until this update. At 12.7, and has now been moved to 13.0
(the same BR as a Swedish jet with Fox 3, though that’s besides the point)
The Su-27: Can carry… 6x R-27ER, 2x R-27ET (W/O 2 R-27ER), and 6x R-73 (W/O 2 R-27ER)
An excellent flight model that (to my knowledge) does not underperform. Though please correct me if I’m wrong.
And x96 Large caliber CMs
The Su-27 also carries a superior radar, and has a more impressive speed. Along with being much more fuel efficient
Is it my skill issue, or is it true that Sukhoi jets generally preform better in game? And why do MiG jets get so commonly nerfed?
Sukhois are better in War Thunder, all MiGs aside from the MiG-9 and 21 have broken flight models and they cant dogfight. Gaijin nerfed them for no reason
just how it is sadly, with the Su-27 platform having much more potential compared to the MiG-29. Russian MOD saw this as well after the collapse with them only having the money to buy one platform. So they picked the Sukhoi since its a larger, much longer range and can carry more armament.
As for the FM issue, yeah gaijin didn’t cook at all when making the MiG-29 FM.
In game, the MiG-29s are just insanely gimped. I can’t think of another modern MiG besides the MiG-21 Bison upgrade which was guaranteed to be bad with such an old FM (similar to F-5TH).
Its also probably because (IRL) the MiGs generally are light fighters or interceptors rather than the Sukhois which are more heavy multirole or air superiority. I’d argue the F-14/F-15 is comparable to the Sukhoi in terms of role (missile count and similar (ish) size/weight), and the MiG-29 is more comparable to the F-16 (missile count, not sure abt size/weight).
