I was trying to fly F-14B in air sim, but it keeps on pitching down even when damping is on. This also happens with F-4, A-10C, F-14A and AV-8B+ (AV-8B+ starting pitching up instead of down when A2G weapons are loaded).
Is there any fix for this, I don’t really want to fly in manual
Worst - it’s pitching down even with auto-leveling enabled.
It works about 50% of the time and when it works, it make you lose decent amount of altitude
SAS mode in many aircraft is either poorly implemented or doesn’t work correctly. Personally, I only know a few aircraft where it works reasonably well. I suspect that SAS modes are modeled differently for each aircraft — meaning the damping and auto-leveling behave differently in each one, so fixing it would likely require reporting every aircraft individually.
Bruh, how tf am i supposed to find documents on SAS. This kind of stuff really makes sim not worth playing even though i like playing sim :(
First of all, we would need to clearly define what damping and auto-leveling actually are. In the game, damping is used to smooth control inputs and makes it easier to maintain a steady heading (eliminating the need for trimming when applied to all control surfaces), but it does not function as an autopilot.
Auto-leveling, on the other hand, counteracts joystick inputs and tries to return the control surfaces to a neutral position.
And this is where the issues and simplifications begin:
The damping mode behaves the same in every aircraft — whether it’s the F-4 Phantom, the more modern F-16, or even newer designs.
The auto-leveling mode behaves inconsistently. In some aircraft, it practically prevents maneuvering; in others, it allows limited maneuverability; and in some, it works like a proper auto-level system.
If we only knew what the developers actually intended, we could make proper suggestions and provide concrete examples for specific aircraft.
As it stands, we’re left with reporting bugs related to incorrect behavior of these systems in-game, without relying on real aircraft manuals. In the past, such reports have been made, but they focused on individual cases rather than the overall behavior of these systems.
Might work if you also use trim?
Elevator trim has no effect when damping is on
