The ammunition used by the T-84M in Thailand should not be BTA4. As the matching ammunition for the VT4 sold by China to Thailand, its use on the T-84 is not only a matter of whether the loading mechanism is compatible, but also whether the barrel can withstand it. As far as I know, the majority of the ammunition used by the Thai T-84 is 3BM15 and 3BM22. Then why not equip the T-84 with the 3BM44U armor-piercing ammunition developed by Ukraine?
Proove me wrong, but given this round (BTA4), as well as DTC10-125, should be fired even from elder/earlier Soviet-style annons (namely those that China and other countries that are buying these rounds operate), there is absolutely no indication of KBA-3 (Ukrainian-produced 2A46-derived cannon) not being able to handle firing the round that is also fired by ZPT-98 (Chinese-produced 2A46M-derived cannon). The only reason why it wouldn’t really fire it would be autoloader and round dimensions, however it was already proven in the forum it can be used (in fact, Chinese 125mm rounds are supposed to be used by elder 125mm cannons as it was one of their selling point, the ammo interchangeability regardless of how old the gun model is).
Fyi 3BM44U is just designation for Ukrainian-produced 3BM42, and rounds like 3BM44U1/2 did not go further than mock-ups with insufficent ammount of data of how it would work was it actually produced.
The ammunition used in China has very strict requirements regarding chamber pressure. At the same time, it is not known whether the T84 tank gun can withstand such high chamber pressure.
I don’t think you can acess such info, at least I can’t proove it. However, there are numerous instances of Gaijin giving rounds vehicles did not operate if dimensions of their chambers and rounds suggested are deemed fit.
in fact, KBA-3 and ZPT-98 have same specs, because KBA 3 is morednised 2A46 TO 2A46M-1’s standart (and have same max pressure as 2A46M) an Chinese ZPT-98 is copy of 2A46M
No, 2A46 has a 48x diameter, while ZPT98 has a 50x diameter. Moreover, improvements were made by incorporating Chinese technology. This is not a replication of 2A46, just as you in the West would say, the Type 99 tank is a replica of the T72. But the reality is that it’s merely a reference.
I don’t know if this will help something, but it seems like VT-4’s ZPT98 can share ammunition with 2A46M-1 or D-81 TM which are the original variant of KBA-3

additional: DTW-125mm export name is BTA4
All 2A46M pattern cannons for Russia, Ukraine, and China are rated for 650mpa
- 50x is LENGTH, 125 mm is diameter
- ZPT98 is copy of 2A46M, which have 50 caliber length (2A46 have 48 caliber length)
and what I forgot to say, ZPT-98 IS actually a copy of 2A46M from 1980, which is a modification of original 2A46 from 1970, but with longer barrel by 2 calibers long (50 from 48) and received ability to shoot ATGM
