Why can dead people still shoot?

dead =/= destroyed

Got it. My bad. The point I made about the fact that once an aircraft is so badly disabled it’s no longer flyable the crew would not be interested in manning guns/missiles, remains. It’s simply that there is no consequence to dying in game that sees people “go down with the plane”. Another issue related to this is the amount of times players in aircraft that have been cut to pieces STILL manage to get bombs away and kill ground players. Has happened to me countless times and is annoying as hell. When you see on the kill cam the half an aircraft spinning on two axis’ uncontrollably that somehow still sprays bombs and somehow gets kills… What a bunch of BS.

This is at least something they are working on.

The addition of electronic parts to aircraft has been helping to make this less common.

-Unless they’re in a Harrier

You have to kill the pilot for a plane to be “dead”.
Thats why I always say to finish your kills, dont care if I have to kill steal.

Really? that sounds like a bug.

a nuke can literally go into the back of ur jet then ur avionics are fine? like bro come on now

Depends on the plane. most dont have the updated damage model.

I have had times where i was unable to fire missiles because my electronics got taken out.

gaijin is really bad about adding a feature for a few vehicles then taking years to roll it out to others.

You play as the pilot. Every decision the pilot makes should be yours and no one else’s. This is an important distinction versus ground or naval and must be respected.

Now, introducing lateral G would be nice but that’s about it.

For spinning, many times it’s recoverable with fast enough reaction speed and proper control inputs.

Consider JebediahKerman’s flight here:

(Guy has a really fitting name, I swear).

My own flight here started with spinning out (but I didnt record alas)

These feats are also possible in DCS and Il2 (). Wing damage in Warthunder is often exaggerated and equivalent would look more like this (people want to rip wings off. This wing was shredded by direct flak hits. In Warthunder it’d have been a stub):

IL2 - wing loss, horizontal stab loss, control loss, blind landing with near-dead engine

DCS - losing both ailerons AND also losing wingtip

As for going down with the plane,

again - in IL2 many servers have complex rules about what qualifies as survival.

There’s a HEAVY emphasis on taking your dead plane and flying it back somewhere into friendly territory - ideally an airfield - rather than jumping out over hostiles (and getting captured/killed). At certain altitudes, it’s also easier to crashland than open the canopy, jump out and pray the parachute deploys.

Flankers can get their wings ripped off and still not give severe which is so annoying

I had it in one of my first games with the Sea Harrier FRS 1. (the Squadron vehicle)
I brought too little fuel on accident because I figured minimum would be enough. I used my VTOL mode to land safely just as I was on my last second of fuel and then I heard the power fail and the engine shut off as it ran out of fuel. I sat there in the middle of field as my teammates flew around for the next +7:00 iirc
never got kicked out, no crew lock, i was free to go

and its the most stupid mechanic in this game. a plane is damaged beyond salvaging it. all hydraulics are gone. all wires are sheered off. the entire control panel is ripped out of the plane. but no, the pilot survives, and can continue to shoot and drop bombs like if theres nothing going on.

but tanks? why cant the last man keep standing? why cant the last tank crew member take the gunner’s position and pop a last round? its bias. everyone knows air mode is shit, so they hand them a few bones.

They did. Many years ago Gaijin tried introducing that mechanic. Everyone hated it. They scrapped it almost immediately.

When I referred to spinning I said “When you see on the kill cam the half an aircraft spinning on two axis’ uncontrollably that somehow still sprays bombs and somehow gets kills”. I’m saying that an aircraft that’s been cut in half by a fighter, as happens regularly. You do NOT recover HALF an aircraft in War Thunder.

Uhm... Just wanted to show that this happened to me once

It’s very easy to fix — just make it so that any pilot who has taken severe damage can’t use the HMD or radar, and the problem would be solved. In real life, a pilot who gets hit at 9,000 meters and has to glide down like a falling leaf for the rest of their life wouldn’t be able to use the HMD or radar properly anyway.

the weakest gripen

Ive done the same before in a rafale. Total bs lol.

Reiterating: “Severe damage” includes a black horizontal stabilizer. Black, not torn off - that’d actually be nearly unrecoverable. Just black. It has some effect on your turn performance but even with sim controls it barely bothers the pilot.
