Why are there night battles in air RB 5.0?

This is indefensible, pitch black without any NVDs and reduced detection, you can’t hit anything, ANYTHING you can’t see anything, this is ridiculous

idk. At least you got markers

It’s immersive.

Jack shit when you have Xbox controls, hard to aim well to begin with

I thought you could use keyboard and mouse as an imput to the consoles for years now

I had this a few days ago above Saipan in a BR 3.3 - 4.3 match - very nice sky with stars, few clouds - but thanks to the rather high contrail alt on this map (6.400 meters) not like some years ago when night battles in Air RB were more common.

I found my victim (8 vs 8) by watching the kill feed and assuming an enemy ground pounding and found him by watching blue dots of my ground ai disappearing - but the marker range was significantly lower and there were no searchlights like years before…

Btw: The was a poll / suggestion last year about night battles:

Night Battles: Air RB

Imho gaijin overlooked the decisive word in the question of the suggestion “would you like to see an option”…

Have a good one!

Well they had many night flies in 1940s so why not add them in warthunder for a bit of more realism lol

I’m fairly sure this is a bug, where the time tries to sync, fails, and the game sets it to 00:00. The lighting looks off, like there’s a sun on the horizon.
Personally, I enjoy this bug, as up close there is enough light to see, and from afar it masks plane orientation giving you an extra variable to worry about (that is, extra gameplay for the game you are playing).
Someone needs to file a bug report, if it wasn’t done yet.
Related to this bug, sometimes you start at one time of day, only to see it suddenly change to another time, not necessarily midnight.
Compared with OP’s screenshot, I can actually see my own plane and the land. You may wanna tweak your settings a little.

For bombers yes but i doubt most single engine day fighters had dogfights at night, they created night fighters for a reason.

F6F-5N would be your answer.

One single engine fighter with a radar doesn’t justify night battles for all.

Well there is 2 F6F-5Ns. But I not saying it a good reason but it is a reason.

On top of that is the HE-219, JU-388. TBH I am surprised it isn’t lower with gaijins reasoning. I mean radar aircraft exist all the way down to 2.3.

As well as the Do 17 Z-7, Do 217 J-1, Do 217 J-2, Ju 88 C-6, Do 217 N-1, Do 217 N-2, Bf 110 G-4, & Ta 154 A-1
