Why are the Merkava tanks being nerfed again?

Israeli M339 is an HE-TF round with a delayed fuse intended to punch through buildings and fortifications like SAPHE. Not only that, but it’s also one of the most fun shells in the game, so why must we have another fun aspect taken from us?

In the last 3 months, Israel’s Merkavas have lost their engine armor, roof armor, and now their HE-TF penetration.

Genuinely, what gives Gaijin?

Merkava buffs are looking more and more mythical these days 🫩

It has 2.3kg of explosive in-game too
Said explosive is equivalent to 3.7kg of TNT

Oh yeah, my bad. I didn’t see that

But considering that 155mm M107 shells have 2.5 times that TNT equivalent and have less HE pen, the 120mm shell was overperforming by A LOT to begin with, so it’s more of a return to normal rather than an actual nerf

The OP is talking about the KE penetration, the HE penetrations is unchanged.

That’s a neat minor buff.
RealShatter instead of the older system.

KE penetration isn’t the penetration you should be using, it’s HE penetration, which hasn’t changed:

An over-performing munition in KE was fixed in KE.

The KE penetration is what makes it act like SAP-HE, reduce that and it becomes normal HE, that is where the complain originates from

I see.
The game has it modeled as a standard HE-TF though.
Whether it’s misnamed or otherwise modeled incorrectly I wouldn’t know.

What I do know is the round, as modeled as HE-TF… this is a correction.

It shouldn’t be called HE-TF if it’s not HE-TF.

You do realize concrete isn’t RHA, right ?

It’s HE-TF with abnormally high KE penetration, but it before the Auto-tracking buff, the fuse could be used to detonate the shell after penetrating certain areas (roadwheels, weak hull sides, driver ports etc), allowing it to kill much more effectively than a typical HE or HE-FS shell.

The ability to do so was nerfed about a year ago, this further nerf just makes it a weaker 3OF26 essentially

M107 and similar 155 HE howitzer shells aren’t even remotely simar in use or function to M339

Yes, but 23 mm is far too low.

This web page details a lot information about M339, which in-game is not correctly represented if the information containing in this website is true (from HE-TF in-game to HE-MP-T), although not correctly, I see this to balance or put in par to other large caliber HE-TF projectiles, take 3OF26 EDKV as example.

That webpage does not allow me to view anything.

Part of this post is also about the relentless, extremely random nerfs to Israel’s Merkava MBTs. Many of these nerfs have also been nonsensical and illogical, such as the Roof Protection and Engine Spall nerfs.

M339’s upcoming nerf is only the newest addition to this list.

It’s a great unfortunate that the webpage linked previously is only accessible by paying for access, although there are various of sources talking about Israeli ammunition, one of them which is free for access is this one by Elbit Systems which I don’t think do give out information compared to the previous but also don’t stop of giving out good information, there also another by IMI Systems which is now archived.

Obviously 200 mm of penetration in concrete material won’t share the same values against composite steel armor but I have no doubt that it can penetrate a good amount, considering that in-game is incorrectly labeled as HE-TF, this could serve as sources to fix in a further bug reporting, I’d like to give my support if you’re willing to do so, complaining on the forum without good sources won’t lead to nothing and will be forgotten.

I’m bringing attention to an issue that is regularly ignored on the bug report forum. The only way to not be ignored with “not a bug” is here.
