when ever i try to use my bomber aircraft’s they are utterly wrecked after getting hit once and fall apart like Lego being thrown against a wall as well as my turrets doing nothing to try and stop it like prop bomber aircraft are genuinely unusable and feel like they are made of a single layer of paper
because they are indeed made of paper and face fighters with big cannons and higher br prop bombers even face radar missiles that cant be dodged
bomber gameplay isnt viable for years now
No, with some research in the new (and ofc in the old) you find out that the current damage model has other reasons.
At least from my pov It boils down that a lot of damages which guaranteed a delayed kill (like tail control lost) were changed to complete tails getting shot off - the result is the same, but the death of the bomber is way more spectacular and happens instantly instead of delayed. In other words the visible damage is way more spectacular than it should be.
You see this when u perform a perfect 90 degree dive on a bomber - when u aim with a single center mounted cannon for the left wing and hit there - in most of the cases the right wing will break away too - even without a hit.
usually the opposite wing breaks off due to drag increase because of how the plane rotates after losing one wing
anyone with >5 iq shoots bombers engines first and then big cannon shot center mass, bomber has no chance of surviving
unless you snipe out enemy fighter as a bomber before it gets to you, you wont survive
In SB bombers are good and can be very dangerous for a lonely fighter.
Is aware that this:
…has nothing to do with this:
If you read my statement again, you might see that i described that you shoot the left wing away and at the same time (so no delay) the right wing breaks off too - this has nothing to do with drag (flat wrong) or very high g-loads if this happens simultaneously.
This is mainly the result of the 3rd person view whilst being in the manual gunner position and the artificial stabilization of defensive guns in turrets. So the attacking fighter is hampered by cockpit view and has to get very close (~400 m) to reliably hit the bomber - whilst the bomber can open fire at 2km with a way better hit probability.
That is the main reason why you see a hell of B-25s with >5.000 kills (and very high K/Ds) in Air SB.
Their current state is why I play them almost exclusively in simulator.
Well this has to do with the old days… You see… bombers were so OP 10 years ago. We used to max them out entirely, and fly between all the fighters and they would snipe half the team. You could chase down fighters with them, and you were protected on all sides. So instead of finding a middle ground, in typical fashion. They nuked them into the abyss.
But those days were comically fun when you could fly through the furball in a B17 and get 4 kills.
Because the Heavy Fighters/Fighters Couldn’t compete with reality
Bombers at least had good auto turret crew but they were nerfed to buggery like all good things in this game.
