Why are minor updates for WT so ridiculously large and frequent?

As a casual player who logs in once or twice a week its always a bit frustrating to see another update every time. I’m not whining about support the devs give this game but the frequency and the download size of them.

I had a game yesterday and had to download a 2gb update for some bugs.
Then I was hoping to have 1 quick game tonight before the wife gets home from work, no, another 1gb update is required. I have a slow connection as well (15mbs) so these updates are not fast downloads for me.

Also the updates do not seem well coded. I have a background in programming in multiple languages but the 1.1 gb update I’m currently downloading addresses…

A bug that caused collision issues when ground vehicles came into contact with cedar trees on the Japan map has been fixed.
A bug where the active scouting recharge animation would sometimes not display when viewed through the gunner’s sight or binoculars has been fixed. During these instances the recharge mechanic worked correctly, only the display was incorrect. (Report).
Graphics
A bug that caused the display to be stretched to an incorrect aspect ratio when using a screen resolution higher than native (DSR — Dynamic Super Resolution) has been fixed.

A few script and code rewrites should not constitute 1,000meg download. 10 years ago an update like this would have been around 10-20meg?
Even another game I have, (iRacing) rarely has downloads anywhere near this unless its a major update. Most are 50-200 meg and only happen once or twice a month.

It most likely is an issue with your game.

The last few updates where no where near a gig.

Try checking the files.

With a big update around the corner they are probably already putting some finished models into the game before the update is announced and fully released

Other preparatory things are likely also happening in the background, so others are smaller than they otherwise would be, you can view the “Datamines” for more (unofficial) info as to the actual contents and impact of any particular update.

I do feel your pain though only having a ~2.3 Mb/sec downlink though.

They also trimmed Mouse Aim logic on rudders (locking rudder deflection to far below safety limit, only Q/E can help but this is not as accurate). This time they killed J7W1.

The changes are never announced but are tested out by experienced duelists.

I am 90% sure they add stuff that isn’t disclosed at times. You can check the gszabi99 datamine repo on GitHub to see what stuff is actually added.

Bug fixed don’t get pushed

Bug fixed get pushed

While it would be nice to segment the game so that you don’t have to download content for gamemodes you don’t play it would probably not be feasible from the development standpoint.

Because Gaijin is very good at making bugs.

The way files are batched these days can play a big role in update sizes. Batching game files into packages is typically more efficient for storage size, which is a major consideration with how big games are getting. But it can also mean having to redownload the whole pack even when only a small part of it is changed.

There’s a balance between having a lot of small packs or a handful of large ones.

Not to mention, War Thunder will sometimes predownload assets like Battlepass vehicles, so that 1GB download can have a bit more than just the bugfixes

Bro cannot catch a break from reality

Feel bad for you man. Bro can’t do one tiny Ort of the grind? You doing US naval? I’m 4K from North Dakota. And 54K from Roanoke. Yes go ahead, try and make fun of me for playing the superior game mode for large cruisers and dreadnoughts.
