Hello everyone, I’m a newbie.
I often came across this game, but for some reason I rejected it. I didn’t like this genre before. But this time I decided to give it a try because I didn’t know what else to play. And I really liked the airplane battles. I started playing as Britain. Although I don’t know who it would have been better to play as. I liked the Soviet planes visually. But I don’t feel very good about the politics of those times. And I feel even worse about the current one. So I would play for anyone but them. I would be grateful for your help and advice.
unfortunately in my opinion the soviet vehicles are the most beginner friendly, otherwise I would probably play USA as you have to worry less about conserving ammo
In this case, I will take a more difficult path)
The nation you choose doesn’t really matter as it will take you quite some time to get to the top a of a tree so any tips regarding the top ranks will likely be obsolete once you actually get there. (though currently the US seems to be one of the best when it comes to air to air combat)
If you like planes then most trees play very similar until you get to BR 7-8 somewhere (which also tends to be the hardest part to get past in any tree as you get into jets and have to learn new mechanics and often have to play differently to play well). If you play arcade i also recommend thinking about what planes you bring in your lineup, the highest BR plane determines what enemies you face, so if you have a lot of BR 2 planes and then one BR 3.7 then you will have to fight BR3.7 planes in your other BR2.0 planes when you spawn them, so it might be good to sometimes wait with adding newly unlocked planes to your lineup.
General tip; as a complete beginner Arcade mode is way more forgiving and gives you more opportunities to spawn several vehicles to learn the mechanics, its a bit slower to unlock new vehicles in Arcade but you tend to gain more Silver lions there, Realistic mode tends to be faster to unlock new vehicles but also has a higher risk of going negative with Silver lions unless you have premium time or play really well. Realistic does however attract more players and tends to be the game mode most players find more fun to play. So a tip is to start with Arcade and then try realistic a couple of times in-between arcade matches to see how you like it :)
There are a few tutorials that i recommend going through as well, not necessary to do but they help a bit at the start and give a little Silver lion boost when completed. You can find them top left in the hangar menu under “battles” → “tutorial” (almost all of the weapon tutorials are for BR 7 or higher.).
If you start to struggle with Silver lions you can also turn of “auto purchase modifications” (click a plane in your lineup → modifications → uncheck the “autopurchase” at the bottom left) to save some SL for buying new planes instead. Same with “Autorepair” and “Autorefill ammo” (to the right in the lineup bar at the bottom).
I hope you have fun playing the game :)
Thank you for these tips. I think they will help me.
Btw, I don’t think you should mind the irl politics of the nation when picking which one to grind, I mean you’re literally playing a war game and every nation in game has done war crimes or invasive policies at some point…
Just enjoy the game and forget what these things were used to do irl
Maybe you’re right. But I have many friends from the country that suffered from the actions of the other. I won’t elaborate, everyone knows what I’m talking about and we’re talking about games here in general) That’s why the symbolism and everything connected with that aggressor does not give me very pleasant feelings. That’s why I try to avoid it.
But if you look at it this way, wars have always been accompanied by murder, robbery, and abuse of people.
But thank you for your advice.
You do not have to pick a single nation to start with, you can play with a few and figure what you like. All vehicles in game are “balanced” to some extent though their playstyle differs (You will find this quick when you keep on getting shoved into CQB after CQB maps in ground battles).
In terms of politics in a game - you can either enjoy a game for the fact that it is a game or worry about politics. Whenever you play a war-game there is always the risk of the world changing - as long as the game does not choose a side and endorse a conflict it is fine. Also, as long as you don’t play a nation to be toxic towards other players based of the nations political history, it is fine.
Well, it’s your election to play a country or another, no one’s going to force you. I was about to say, I don’t know which countries you prefer, but for example, if you played Germany, you could get a taste on a few MiGs and early Sukhois (not flankers though). In the case of Great Britain, you’ll see a Swedish plane (the JAS-39C) and the Eurofighter but no soviet. In fact, if you like the looks of Soviet planes but not their country’s politics, you might want to play China? They have Su-27s a ‘few’ American planes, early MiGs and some French vehicles. Of course all of the countries have had political issues along their history but I don’t know which are your ‘limitations’. Also, although do understand your standing point, I just want to tell you that some people play those nations just for their vehicles, not because they favour a past historical point of that country (while some do, of course, you’ll see many types of people).
When it comes to really a beginner friendly nation, I’ve heard that the US is the best one to go to as it has an ample variety of planes to play with and learn, but of course, you might as well take the short/easy way or the long way (Premium plane or no premium plane basically). I do not know your priorities, so maybe you want to get to top tier fast, or you like prop planes, maybe you want to have some fun with everything and maybe you like early jets or well, I’m focused on planes and you want to play tanks and this doesn’t help at all. When it comes to tanks, though, I am not able to help at all as I’m very bad with them and I went the easy/short way.
So yeah, here's a list:
USA: Said to be beginner friendly.
Germany: You get different planes such as Soviet and American planes and Tornados
USSR: Assuming you don’t want to play I’ll skip it
Great Britain: You’ve got a good share of planes (Spitfires are fun to play too)
Japan: I know nothing about this one, but by looking at it, you can see different vehicles but from Rank V it’s all American planes besides a Grippen and a few domestic aircraft.
China: As I said before, you get some J-11s which are similar in looks to the Su-27s, besides that it’s all a mix of France, America, Great Britain, USSR and some Japanese aircraft.
Italy: Can’t say much about Italy.
France: Can’t say much about France either.
Sweden: Though it does look short, the fact that the game requires you to buy all the planes on each rank to proceed to the next one makes it longer than expected, still, variety isn’t as good as other countries.
Israel: Well, I’ve heard you can’t access this country unless you have reached Rank IV on another country but I don’t really remember it. The tree is rather short as it skips the 3 first ranks and to be honest there’s not many planes on it so this one’s a very fast way to top tier. You see American and French aircraft and that’s it. Not the most recommended one for sure.
It’s important that you know that when I say I have nothing to say, I don’t mean they’re good or bad, it’s just that I haven’t seen them much.
Well, that’s it, whoever wants to read all this, you’re on your own. Feel free to add whatever to the list, as my knowledge isn’t as vast and deep as some of you.
Low tier has some nice unique stuff, I really enjoy the VB-10-02 and the D.520
Just try to dip into each tree for a bit and decide after you felt like you found the tree that you feel comfortable.
If you like USSR planes but feel iffy due to politcs, maybe try China as they use several early and late soviet planes alongside some western and domestic aircraft.
I personally just grind most trees to t4 and switch (I’ve done Britain Israel and Japan in air and Germany on ground so far).
Again just have some test runs on arcade (which you can stick to if you find it fun) and try out what you want, you don’t need the highest tier planes to have fun.
This is a game. A game about war. Suggest you don’t overthink it if you wish to enjoy it. Also note that politics are very much a “no-no” here and in the online chat system.
USSR planes arent exactly begginer friendly unless you play arcade due to the low ammo count, poor aim and/or trigger discipline will lead to frustration quickly.
German planes have specific playstyles thst need to be aheared to (BnZ fw190/force verticle bf109) which can be frustrating if you have newer player tendencies to turn fight everything. These playstyles are also not the best for the low alt furballs that every match ends up being, or requires teamates to set you up, and the short match lengths.
Britain, US, and japan will be your best bet. If you have an intrest in ground as well than US is the obvious answer.
If you plan on playing more modern stuff stick with 1 nation, after ww2 BRs the game starts ramping up the grind and it will require serious time and money investment in premium time/vehicles.
Personally, I think you’ll find the most fun in Japan. At prop tiers they have some of the best overall aircraft, though they tend to lack ammo. From rank V on, Japan is primarily made up of American aircraft, and you’re only really missing out on the Hornet and the Tomcat in that regard. At top tier, Japan gets two of the best dogfighting platforms (those being the JAS39 and F-16As) and what was one of the best missile carriers of the tier. It used to be a lot easier to grind though, before Thailand was added to the tree, due to most the tiers after V only requiring 3-4 aircraft, also being able to skip Rank VII entirely as it only needed one aircraft. I recommend going down the left two paths first, as those’ll give you the T-2/F-1 in rank 6 which you can then use to grind out the regular Thai line. Japan also has a very strong ground lineup at top tiers
If not Japan, Sweden woukd be your next best bet. They have the most unique tech tree ingame currently, with very few copy/paste vehicles (other than ground / helicopters) but a single F-15EX can carry more CAS ordinance than the entire Swedish tech tree. You do get Finland which comes with an F-18C though, so you get two of the top dogfighters at the BR. My only issue though is that you have to research the JAS39A and then the JAS39C for another 420k but you’re going still be seeing the C while playing the A, as much as you shouldn’t be
Germany, America, and Russia are all also very grindy tech trees, especially add to that that everyone plays them so the teams are commonly atrocious.
If you are looking for good aircraft for the lower BRs, Britain’s Spitfires are always a fairly solid choice and the air tree is pretty decent until it gets a little shakey between 8.3 and 12.0, but there are still some fun aircraft scattered about within that area.
Ive not done a huge amount of the other TTs, but i’ve also had some half decent fun with the Italian low tier props as well.
Best advice is to not play a single nation. There’s no restriction not reason to only play one. Playing multiple will allow you more options and to see what you like, it’ll allow you to become more familiar with the strengths and weaknesses of your aircraft and those you face, it’ll ensure you’re experienced and prepared for each new aircraft you get. Most importantly it’ll help you avoid the trap of “my nation is bad there’s no way I can perform better with these bad aircraft.” The only disadvantage is that the progression is a bit slower (but not as much as you’d think), if your only goal is to rush to top tier that may be an issue. But if that is your goal I’ve gotta warn you it’s not a very good one. If lower tiers are purely a grind to get through you’re not going to enjoy the game, you’ll never learn to fly well enough to research efficiently, and you’ll be disappointed when you finally do reach top tier. Might as well just buy a premium and get it over with in that case.
So long story short try 2 or 3 nations. Britain and the Soviets have great props, Germany and the US are also good. A minor nation like France or China have a great mix of aircraft and a faster progression. But don’t feel locked into your choices.
