Which variant of the spitfire is the best for air realistic

I have noticed little difference between 60% and 100% rad when it comes to oil temp. With either engine doesn’t overheat, only oil does and only way to stop it is to lower engine output by a good 5% through prop pitch (depending on alt, at 5000 the performance drop is so hige, you can use 100% without overheating).

LF Mk IX at low alt requires either removing huge part of engine power or 100% radiator. So it’s indeed tricky, you have to constantly adjust either for lower speed acceleration and climb, or for speed. Still easier than german prop pitch adjustment :P

Gaijin is probably not lowering air temp at alt because thay would actually encourage people to fight at higher alt more. And this game is so broken, there’s 0 reason for typical player (a.malicious troll) to come back down.

You can’t go wrong with the mk9c. It carried me through 3 rookie GE wagers… have 200+ with a 90% win rate…

My personal favourite is the F Mk XIVe. It is the one I have the best k/d for. I prefer the XIV over the LF IX at 5.7 because it’s speed allows you to keep up with p51 H and gives you a better chance of chasing down those annoying Ju 288s.

How do i should work with mec on early spitfires? Mk I, Mk II? Mainly oil is overheating, but no oil radiator, so open rad not help too much, I trying decrease prop pitch to 90%, and of course I don’t use WEP, only in fight or zoom climbing for example. I try to work with throttle, reduce it to 80% when there is an opportunity, but even then, overheating is a high stakes game.

So, please, can you advise me?

Good example:
Yesterday I got into a 1v3 situation with the Mk IIa (vs I-185, P-38 and Hurricane) and I had to turning, I got I-185, P-38 was killed by a teammate very soon after that, my speed was decreasing rapidly during this and than I stayed in the low speed turning against the hurricane, I had to keep turning, already on the deck, he couldn’t get on my six, nor could I get on his six, I waited for my teammate to take him down, it took forever, when it was over, my engine was overheated so much that i can’t cooled it. I didn’t reach the airport. That engine couldn’t handle a longer stay at a speed of only 250 km in which my turning duel with the hurricane took place, and I didn’t even have full throttle during this.

On LF versions I gave up using mec for a long time.
I climb with full wep above all enemies, shut off engine for 20sec and have a fresh engine.

Yeah, that’s fairly smart. This whole “engine healing” mechanic is ridiculous and not described anywhere outside of some forum post. GJ Gaijoob.

You’re telling men that air temp doesn’t change with altitude? 🤔

It doesn’t. Hence Ta-152H going 300IAS overheats oil like crazy at 7000m. You have to drop the power by around 8% for it to not overheat. Interestingly doesn’t matter what the max engine power at certain alt is. It’s 2000? You need 1850. . It’s 1560 at 6700m? You need 1450. It still overheats at 8500 which is the main reason trying to utilise superior supercharger fails, because you have to drop throttle/engine RPM and run 100% rads to not cook.

anybody got tips for the Mk IX (CW) in the israeli TT?

So far it’s going fair, just an annoying trend of canons jamming at the worst possible time when stock lol! One match in and I could immediately tell it shouldn’t be flown like a Spitfire at all, I was also schocked by the mediocre climb rate and the incredible speed bleed, although that helps it a lot in low speed fights, the acceleration is also decent even stock. The .50 cals are beyond useless however.

use short burst, and I really mean short 2-3 shots max

that problem will go away when you research the more modern versions of the guns

it’s a very good plane, the clipper wings take away some Turning power but in return you get a better roll rate

the mark 9 is the best 5.7

I would tho argue that the version without clipped wings is better

i wouldn’t call it good, it’s incredibly average.

not really no, it’s quite good…

… in the right hands

This is your issue. You are judging a book by its cover by the sounds of things. The Spitfires are universally good, the Mk IX’s with the decent engine (Denoted by the 31.8m/s climb rate) are some of the strongest of them all, at the perfect BR where they avoid overwhelming uptiers and yet remain strong even in full uptiers.

I personally love the Mk IXs as at 5.7. I personally prefer the 4x303s over the 2x 50cals but that is largely personal preference

So wait till you actually spade the aircraft first.

It has one of the highest climb rates of the BR, when spaded

Dont pull quite so hard then, manage your energy, though again, spading will help a lot

Probably a combo of low crew level and stock. But even when not stock and with an ace crew, you need to control your fire. Short, controlled bursts to preserve ammo. The Hispanos hit like a truck, I personally like Stealth belts, but air targets work well too if you want tracers. But they have limited ammo count and a high RoF, you will burn through ammo in seconds if you arent careful (Will take about 13 ish seconds to empty the mags)

Eh… I do personally prefer the 4x 303s as already stated, but they do fine damage, though your main weapon is always the Hispanos and what ever gun is after that is just back up. A good tactic is to have the ability to fire each gun independently if needed, clear shot, fire everything, but in a fight and just want to poke a few holes but not waste ammo on a potential miss, fire the 303s/50 cal

I did spade it, I still don’t find it that good, I do somewhat well in it, yes you can reverse and slap about anything you see, but I still find it to be a chore to fly, I think I just prefer P51’s over spitfires in general.

Yes, spading it fixed most of my issues, mostly the guns (stealth belts my beloved) but I just find it disappointingly sluggish for the BR, I just find British planes and jets underwhelming in general although I’m entering subjective lala land at this point.

I do “well” in it (a hair above 2kpb, which might be mediocre actually), just really dislike it for some reason, even spaded.

Don’t worry about stock, you get ABSOLUTELY CRACKED enemy team and absolute muppets on your own teams.

I spent THOUSANDS of hours playing Air RB. Guess what happens when I jump into stock aircraft?
My team gets ROFLstomped.
You may say “hey, but Loofah, that’s because your plane is underperforming and you have no idea how to fly it yet”.
Ok, but even when I decide to f.e. try a different tree and research a plane I’m already familiar with which I can fly succesfuly in full uptier…

…and then I get full downtier and still get clapped, then maybe, just maybe something is fishy as hell.

My advice - wait till you unlock most upgrades, and then see if you’re still experiencing issues with the plane.
