i bought the HMS iron duke awhile back when it was on sale. needless to say i’m confused still on which shells i should be using. Another thing that confuses me is where i should be aiming to maximize damage.
For lighter targets, the CPBC shells are probably your best bet, they’ll still pen just fine, but wont overpen and they have a much greater explosive mass.
but for anything heavier, such as battlecruisers and battleships. you’ll want to be firing the APC MkIIIa rounds as they will pen the heavier armour.
HE is useful for dealing crew damage or impacting the waterline to cause flooding and dealing with things like destroyers, but for the most part Id mostly run the SAP and AP rounds
As for where to aim. Generally your best bet is to aim below the turrets to hit around the water line. This gives you a fairly good chance of hitting the ammo racks. Another got spot to aim is low and in the middle to hit hte boiler room. Some exception to this though, such as the Scharnhorsts, Gneisenau, Bismark and Sevestapol, you want to aim to impact just below the turret, right where it meets the deck, this should ideally hit the ammo lift, start a fire and destroy the ammo rack that way.
Everything else, is kinda trial and error. Me and a few others have thought about going to the effort of making a comprehensive aiming guide, but its a huge undertaking and none of us could be bothered so far
