I have the opportunity to apply a rank 4 talisman on one of the tier 4 russian vehicles available in GRB (both ground and air vehicles).
Which one should I choose ?
Also, if it’s an IS-2, which one should I prioritize, taking in consideration their difference in armor/shells/BRs (6.3 for the IS-2 vs 6.7 for the IS-2 (1944) and No.321) ? I’m guessing the ennemies they face would change everything.
Considering that you might have all of rank IV obtainable vehicles: T-44-85 is the best option for rank IV, although you have T-34-85 (STP) it doesn’t have the best armor for that high battle rating. IS-2 (all variants) are ‘behind the lines’ support vehicles, it isn’t your usual T34 Heavy Tank and Tiger II that can handle frontlines while retaining good firepower, considering that IS-2 has a slower reload-time you’re probably dealing with Hit and misses, which in case of the IS-2 missing is not really ideal since you’ll be stuck for about 20-seconds reloading. With the T-44-85 having weaker cannon for the battle rating you’ll have to work around with your mobility and lower profile in flanking maneuvers.
For air it will depend: For close air support Tu-2S-44 and Yak-9UT (with 45 mm NS-45 modification) are a good option, although I’ll give you a suggestion to focus on the Tu-2S-44 as it has decent cannons: can deal with light armored vehicles easily at least critically damage it in pair with 3x 1 000 Kg bombs, good maneuverability and a bomb sight for better accuracy, is sort of the best close air support airplane in this rank and battle rating range.
For air patrol or purely air-to-air combat/dogfighting Yak-3U will be the absolute best option for that task, although I don’t see a lot of differences from earlier Yak-9P which is good but not better still an option, you may also consider I-225 just for sake of having more bullets but is mostly up to you. For premium vehicles if you want T-34-100 and Tu-1 are two of the best options you may want to consider mainly for: T-34-100 has a good balance in between mobility and firepower but consider weaker armor, Tu-1 is a Su-8 on budget or Pe-2 on steroids: 2x 45 mm NS-45 cannons combined with 3x 1 000 bombs is a good close air support vehicle that people may ignore, I haven’t seen a lot of it.
In terms of armor, does the additionnal armor of the IS-2 (1944) and No.321 make a difference against let’s say all the 6.7-7.0 heavies IS-2 (1944) and No.321 face, like Tiger IIs, Jagtiger, american T-34/30/29/95s, Tortoise etc ?
Or do both get pened like butter ? Does angling mater with one or the other ?
I’m mainly focusing on IS-2s here, because I didn’t research and buy all the tier 4 russian vehicles yet (I have none at the moment). I got a tier 4 talisman to apply from the War Bond Shop, and in my understanding, it only applies on already bought vehicles within a chosen tech tree ? So if I only research and buy the IS-2, I am assured to get a talisman onto it ?
The additional armor in these vehicles don’t really offer much protection, however, the IS-2 (1944) is technically better armored than the earlier IS-2 (1943): its armor values are better thus you can confidently angle it, IS-2 (1943) having weaker chassis armor values, even angled can be pierced in some spots. Generally keep your front arc facing the enemy, specially with the IS-2 (1944) with its improved chassis armor. And yes, your assumption is correct: You can only apply talismans to already bought vehicles which you have to manually install on it. It may depend, I haven’t bothered getting any talisman for tech tree vehicles.
EDIT: OH! I see, you are going to get one of the Warbond shop talismans. One moment, still good info to know about the sales below anyway.
Uhhhhh, do you have any other vehicles in that rank? I don’t think you can choose which country. Checking more info, one moment.
Ok yeah, you have a lot of other tanks in the same rank in other country’s tech trees. You are not going to be able to direct it to RU. It is fully random for all of the applicable ranked vehicles you own.
Yeah, it is fully random. You do not get a choice of which country it is applied to:
I don’t think this applies to you, but good info anyway:
FIRST! The talismans are probably going to be on sale/discount in less than a week, for at least 30% off. WAIT UNTIL THE SALE EVENT STARTS!!!
The twice a year “big” sales go in two phases, one for in game items (including talismans) and another phase for store pack items. Most stuff is 30% off for this upcoming spring sale, and the fall/winter sale is where almost everything goes for 50% off.
First tier 4 talisman I bought from the War Bond Shop gave me a tier 4 US vehicle talisman, precisely when the US was selected in the hangar lol. So I assumed you could choose a specific nation for the talisman
Yeah, if you really want to spend, I would advise getting a premium vehicle during the sale. IF you were considering purchasing a talisman. One of the biggest reasons is that talismans do not give you the 2.0x multiplier to SL rewards that premium vehicles get. Then, prem vehicles can grind all the way down to rank 1 at max efficiency, and then their repair costs are close to 50% less than a tech tree vehicle.
Talismans really are not worth buying imo, unless you absolutely ADORE a certain vehicle and want the grind to go a little faster.
But even then, I would suggest getting premium time instead. Boosts everything, and you get an SL boost instead of a simple RP boost on one vehicle with talismans, if you were considering taking a look at things during the upcoming sale.
Premium time should be at the full 50% off, whereas even talismans and most premium vehicles will only go on sale for 30%. You can get 180 days of premium time for $20 during the sale on the web store (more simple than buying prem time with GE’s in game.) Well worth it imo.
Oh and final great benefit of premium time: You cannot lose SL’s from a match, no matter what. The worst that will happen is you make 0 SL’s for the match. No matter how many vehicles you lose, even if you get 0 kills or useful actions:
