I suspect my M829 has expired because two consecutive rounds failed to destroy an A7V’s basket.

Your problem might be the Snail slipped you some training rounds.

When I was in the military 15 years ago, we used (just for training) grenades manufactured in the 1950s or 1960s. Unexploded ordnance was very rare

The first round did as expected.
Only fragments hit the basket floor.

Second round was too low for crew, too high for the basket floor it seems.

Did I remember it wrong? I recall that for Leopard tanks and the M1, you don’t need to hit the bottom of the turret basket to damage the turret rotation mechanism. Damaging any part of the basket should be able to knock it out.
