I’ve been trying out some fighters around 3.0 and I got confused with the one second burst mass stat. At first I thought the higher the better and I immediately went for the corsairs with 6 50cals, but after trying out the spitfire I feel like the 8 mgs work just as well with less than half of the burst mass of the corsairs.
I would get it if the mgs had filler or sth but they are mgs so I don’t think they do.
It’s just how much lead you are putting down range. It can be useful for comparing weapons of the same caliber, but of different type or fire rate. A good example is the M61A1 Vulcan found on the F104 Starfighters. It’s limited to 4000 rounds per minute, which is 6.69 kg/s burst mass compared to that of the normal fire rate of 6000 rounds per minute for other M61A1 carrying aircraft, which equates to 10.03 kg/s burst mass.
