What's the Snails Obsession with the Same Low Tier Artillery for Everyone?

Time Yes, Money, should not be any problem with the amount of Premium vehicles i see in every BR.

NB.
it would take very little time and effort to make the German Arty.
Wespe is a PzII chassis, with basically the superstructure of a Marder, with the 105mm;
Hummel is basically the Nashorn with a150mm gun;

I’m all for M44/M55 spam, but it’s criminal we don’t have Wespe, Hummel, M7 Priest and the others.

can we agree on only US getting the m44? the others can get their domestic vehicles

Should’ve told those nations in the 'Nam era and Cold War not to buy American SPHs and should’ve built their own domestic ones so that people wouldn’t complain about Copy/Paste vehicles in a game 60 years from when they were built.
Hell, when we finally get 5th gen in the future, every nation will have an F-35 Lightning II except for China, Russia and India because everyone bought F-35s.
Its the same situation: While we have the Hummel and Wespe to think about for Germany, its a fact that Germany operated M55s. If Gaijin wanted to add domestic vehicles we would’ve had the Hummel and Wespe already.
As for some other countries, I can’t really think of contemporaries to the M55. As far as I am aware, the USA and USSR are the only nations that made 203mm SPH.

If we talk about the M44 filling in spaces:
While Germany can fill it in with the Hummel, England doesn’t have a 155mm armed Howitzer to fit that space. The Sexton and Bishop use 83mm guns so they’d have to be in a lower BR because 83mm HE is useless against anything above 2.0.
And the Priest uses a 105mm Howitzer which will put it at most 3.0. France has its options at least.
Russia should get its SU-14-2 model (used a 203mm Howitzer as well and was armoured, could be at 5.0 easily.)

Honestly I do not mind copy/paste, I mind copy/paste at the cost of domestic vehicles where applicable but lets not kid ourselves, the Wespe, Priest, Sexton and Bishop are NOT filling in a role the M44 and M55 are, their guns are too small and cannot be relied upon.

They have other designs providing that mechanic for them, especially the Soviets.

Sure there are. And they will come to the game. BUT.

The copy-paste allows Gaijin to give several tech trees access to the artillery mechanic without having to model several unique SPHs at once. This way, the famous ones can come one at a time and be a headline addition to individual updates.

For example, “Update Whatever Whatever” will have the Hummel, then six months later “Update What Other Ever” will have the Sexton, and so forth. This way, instead of “wasting” all of the cool designs in one update, you get to stretch out their introduction over a longer period of time, while still giving every tech tree parity in terms of mechanics.

Drip feed content industry works in predictable ways. If you understand the incentives, the rest is fairly straightforward.

If a vehicle exists, it will come to the game. I don’t see why it would not.

I’d replace British M44 with domestic (and Canadian) stuff like Bishop/Sexton. Then again, just had my first game in M55 in the German tree and it’s working out well so far, so idk, lol.

and this sucks a LOT! why tf do i have to grind another garbo copypaste sph when i play france? germany? china? why even have techtrees in the first place if we just get shitty copyslop

It’s how this industry works. You are seeing the negative side now, but also consider there are positives baked into this model too.

For example, a regular game with a regular development process would never be able to implement thousands upon thousands of vehicles. You have 2-3 years development time and that’s it. Afterwards, how do you pay the devs? You can eke out a slightly longer development cycle with DLCs, sure. Some companies make this into a specialty, look at Paradox titles, when they’re mature they’re going to cost you the equivalent of 3-4 games with all the DLC. But this also allows the devs to keep developing the games for 10 years at a time.

WT now has been around for almost 13 years. You need to ask yourself, how is it going to stay around for at least another 13?

Of course parts of this suck for us, but they also enable all the good stuff we like about the game, so all in all, I’ll take the deal. The day that I’m not happy with it anymore is the day that I just go play something else.

Well, you don’t have to, really. There’s so much to play in WT that it’s literally impossible for one person to play all of it. Just find another area of the game that you enjoy and don’t see the grind like a job.

I think it would have been better from the start to have consolidated, multinational tech trees. If you could fit every nation we have in the game into 3, 4, max 5 tech trees, you would bypass a lot of these problems.

Unfortunately it’s too late for that, the problem only became apparent by the time there were already “too many” separate trees in the game.

Now the situation is that most players only play one tech tree and never bother with anything else. Which is sad and I wish that wasn’t the case. But it also means the devs have yet another incentive to stick an M55 everywhere because if most people play only one tree, then they’ll only play the M55 once anyway.

It’s not an ideal situation by any means. But overall the positives still beat out the negatives imho.

i would love if the tech trees consolidated into certain sides
allies and axis, nato and warsaw pact etc (and a neutral freebie tree for the likes of sweden)
and just position vehciles inside those trees

i disagree with everything else you said, i think that devs should cut the rp costs for vehicles you already have in other tech trees (atleast 50% reduction, rising up when you get more copyslop in other trees)

i literally gave up on the italian top tier air because of the shitty hungarian “subtree”
the update came out → now there is a ONE MILLION RP barrier barring me from getting the adv/adf

this single case had me blackpilled xD

My “headcanon” consolidated trees would be something like

Anglo & Friends (UK, USA, Israel, Taiwanese vehicles etc)
Germany & friends (Germany, Italy, Japan etc)
Warsw Pact + PRC
International Tech Tree (Sweden and various other “neutrals”)

In this set up, for example, Hungarian vehicles from the Kingdom of Hungary would be in the second tree. But Hungarian vehicles from the communist era would be in the third tree.

The benefit is that you get very chunky tech trees that have massive lineup depth while still retaining uniqueness (for the most part you will only find T-72s in that Soviet+PRC tech tree for example).

It also has downsides, like most nations getting their content spread out across more than one tree (for example DDR stuff would not be with the “rest” of Germany).

I’m sure a better system than that is possible, it was just an idea off the top of my head.

It’s not like I disagree with an RP reduction man. I did say that I find it very sad that most people only play one tech tree. I myself mostly played Germany until recently. I think the game would be healthier if everyone played a bit of everything.

But that wasn’t really the point of the discussion, the point was, why have a copypaste M55 everywhere? And my answer was, because that’s how drip feed content works, and you should look at its upside as well as the downside. Nothing in that set up is preventing you from cutting RP, though.

Well afaik the Freanch never used them and had their own vehicles but fuck that the tree still gets the belgian one for no fucking reason.

I will never not be salty about the benelux tree since any interesting low tier tank or the specific leopard 1 modifications are not added but it’s just a damn excuse to add copy slop. Like every single benelux tanks is pure copy pastem

While I was playing the M55 before, I was googling on a second monitor and came across this:

Gaijin, where is it? I want it.

lol, imagine the reload

Cheaper, easier, gives them the ability to say "we haven’t neglected x nation.

Still annoying how unique vehicles (and variants that would be perfect folder or squadron material) get shafted, not to mention several vehicles promised since the beta days for the umpteenth copy slop tsunami.

After the first shot, the game boots you to the hanger as the match would finish before the reload happens.

Or we give it an autoloader/j

Cause they never serviced them. Can you not comprehend that some countries used it cause they bought it? Compared to other countries that did not? Also, it’s part laziness or the fact that sometimes there are no other options.

We even have multi vehicles now with the SAM. Imagine hot swapping to the ammo carrier to go and decap an objective while the actual cannon reloads 😁

Unfortunately it seems Gaijin, in the same way as a large portion of playerbase, considers some nations “major” and some “minor”. Modelling entire vehicle for “minor” nation is less attractive for them since it’s not worth money and time spent, not even talking about the situation when you can model just one vehicle for a major nation and copypaste it to 5 others.
On the other hand I don’t understand why they don’t prioritize similar “minor” nations vehicles which they could copypaste to others like Aermacchi jets or Caproni props.
You can say that I’m overexaggerating, but I see how my favorite in-game nation extremely rarely gets any models specifically made for it and not for few nations with only exception of naval stuff (poor RN Roma…).
