Imma grind one of the tt’s soon.
The eurofighter is the best but the sm2 is also goated so your choice
Whichever you prefer physically, but the Eurofighter has the best flight performance and the second-best radar, whilst its missiles are the worst in terms of manoeuvrability; the Su-30SM2 has the best radar and the best missiles in terms of manoeuvrability; the J-10C has the second-best airframe, the worst radar, and its missiles are acceptable
Its a toss up between the EFT and the Su-30SM2. J-10C is/was a solid 14.3 pre-PL-12 nerf, but lacks the FM of the EFT or the missile count of the Su-30SM2. Not by any means a bad aircraft, but the weakest of the 3 (the PL-12 nerf has hit it quite hard though, not totally sure how i’d place it now)
EFT has the better FM, which enables it to defend against threats “properly” and win dogfights. It also the better defensive suite with MAWS and 360 RWR.
It also has the better upgrade path, meaning it should stay competitive for much longer
- CAPTOR-E upgrades
- Full strength BOL
- ECM
- Meteor
- IRIS-T / ASRAAM
- Brimstone / Spear
- AMK
- eDASS
- TRDs
(I dont think the Su-30SM2 can really get much in the way of future upgrades and instead the soviets will be dependent on new aircraft instead of upgrading their current ones, you may prefer this though)
But the EFT has a number of current issues such as:
- BOL is incredibly weak, gives great CM count sure, but you also need to use a lot more of it to defeat threats
- Aim-9Ms can be really inconsistant and are some of the weakest IR missiles in a dogfight at top tier, better used more like a short range BVR missile
- Aim-120C5s need a LOT of hand-holding to get work, and you have a more limited count than some other aircraft, including the SM2, meaning you cant really use them to shoot down incoming missiles like the SM2 can.
- The FM does need some TLC, especially the instructor which can get a bit… squirrely in a number of situations. It’s high alt drag is kinda insane.
SU-30SM2 has the better radar, both in terms of total scan area and in scan rate (though scan rate only because Gaijin wont accept primary sources for the EFT which would triple its current scan rate in most modes) better missiles (R-77-1 is one of the stronger missiles at top tier and R-73 is effective in a dogfight) and a lot more missiles (this allows the SM2 to shoot down in-coming missiles if needed, a “dirty” tactic, but becoming unfortunately the norm)
So. TLDR, Su-30SM2 is better right here, right now, but in the hopefully not too distant future, the EFT will be the better aircraft by quite a large margin
As a final point to make though, which EFT nation? There is 3. The German one is currently slightly weaker than the Italian and British Typhoons due to a different AESA radar and in the future the choice between IRIS-T (Germany and Italy) and ASRAAM (Britain) could be an important one. If/when ECM gets added, then German Typhoons will get the advantage of AREXIS over DASS for ECM, which may or may not be stronger (looking at it from an in-game PoV not IRL)
Both the eurofighter and su30sm2 are very strong. In a 1v1 the sm2 has the edge but the speed and agility of the eurofighter and the high count of countermeasures also makes it nice to defend against threats.
When dealing with opponents from different vectors, the su30sm2 has a more difficult time defending against multiple opponents than the EF, but can pressure multiple opponents better than the EF. It’s a tradeoff.
With the EF you can expect a very fast jet with amazing energy retention and being able to be very high and fast while puting pressure at long range with your Aim-120 while guiding them with TWS in the notch.
With the SM2 you have missiles that are great at turning very tight into off bore targets and still have very good range. And has the best radar in game that can look almost behind the jet (over the shoulder). You can guide your missiles not only when notching, but also when running away. The main issues is that its just a huge aircraft and doesn’t pull as much at high altitudes, and has less countermeasures so you can’t just no brain spam them, also I feel like you need to be more precise in notching incoming missiles than other smaller jets.
Forgot to talk about the J10C, it isn’t worth it. Not bad, but doesn’t compare to the others. End.
SM2 is definitely the best. Typhoon is meh, J-10 is great, SM2 is the best out of those three
I was looking at the german eurofighter, think i may get the premium hornet or, if on sale, the su30mk2
“typhoon is meh”
while it has the best fm in game very good speed amazing radar decent missiles with good missile count and the most ammount of countermeasures? its much better than the J10C and its arguable with the SM2
Gripen is better. Typhoon is just unstable and loses speed too quick.
Average for top tier
AESA version yes
Missiles are only decent with Captor-E
Not really. I dont have the J-10C though so can’t entirely comment on it but I know the SU-30SM2 is better.
this is just wrong?
its like the 3rd fastest top tier jet behind like the rafale and F15E
why would i be talking about the non aesa version?
again why would i be talking about the non aesa version
its faster with better radar better fm missiles is debatable the missile count is the same it has more countermeasures
and the su30sm2 has a much worse flight model less countermeasures but yeah i could agree on you with that statement
How?
Its a Typhoon.
Then again thats just my opinion. I dont play top tier much but whenever my mates play 14.7 I usually bring my Gripen it just works better for me despite only getting R-Farters
the gripen has a much worse t/w much worse sustained turn rate its better in a 1 circle but i think thats about it and good luck forcing a eurofighter into a 1 circle
comparing a 14.3 to a 14.7 if i was talking about the Captor-M i would be comparing to the base 30SM not the SM2
the south african one is the best gripen c in the game but over a typhoon just confuses me
Fair point but people like me got to the first Typhoon with the Captor-M and got incredibly disappointed.
It could just be me, I’m not entirely sure. Playstyle probably has a lot to do with it. I play the Gripen C like I would a Phantom and that seems to work really well.
i got the captor-M typhoon on release back in 2024 and it was an absolute menace but they just hit the thing with nerf after nerf
the gripen c is just peak
The typhoon FM is way better, but there is something wrong with the instructor at high speeds that makes it unstable, maybe that’s what he is talking about.
At low altitudes it’s the fastest, 1611kph IAS rip speed that it can easily reach. Rafale has lower drag but will also rip around 1470kph IAS. If you could disable the wing rip, the EF would still be faster because FM have a soft cap in top speed not far from their actual rip speed.
At high altitudes the F-15E is the faster one but in an actual match, I will average far higher speeds in the EF and Rafale.
Lets start by the easy part. The J-10C has less countermeasures, not more. Su-30SM2 (96 large CM single drop) vs J-10C (72 large CM single drop)
Now regarding the FM’s. The Su-30SM2 is also the better one.
Su-30SM2
-accelerates faster / better climb
-faster top speed
-compresses less at speed
-higher instantaneous turn even at high speed
-slightly better sustained energy retention
-TVC
J-10C
-faster roll rate
-snappier respons
-slightly better unsustained energy retention
Other things worth mentioning:
-su30sm2 is a huge target which is a downside
-j10c carries too little fuel (The su30sm2 on min fuel at 30% is roughly equivalent to the J-10C carrying 50% in max afterburner time)
i was comparing the j10c to the eurofighter and i meant the eurofighter has more cm
Ive heard reports of it also being funky at low speed and low alt too, which ive never had in ASB on full controls. (and im rarely low and slow in ARB, so dont have much first hand experience with the instructor in that regime)
So probably need a total instructor overhaul for the Typhoon at some point, but they wont without a report and I have no idea how to report something so… subjective.
It’s the rudder officer, arrest him.
The rudder is utter s*** ngl, unstable with aoa limits, gets worse with limits off…
Yep. We’ll just blame the Germans
Yeah even at slow speeds its kinda weird. The rafale too, but at high speed it feels more intrusive in the typhoon. I often have to adjust my roll against the instructor to mitigate it trying to drift the plane all over the place
