Vehicles previously categorized under “Imperial Japan” have been consolidated under the unified operator “Japan”
While changing the flag from “Rising Sun” to Hinomaru technically improves historical accuracy, removing the “Imperial Japan” operator country from wiki’s collections list reduces historical detail. This obscures the political, technological, and visual identity of Japanese Empire’s WWII military, blending it with the postwar JSDF.
This change creates inconsistency in how historical factions are treated. Compare with other nations with similar fate:
- Italy: The wiki still distinguishes “Kingdom of Italy” (WWII vehicles) from “Italy” (post-war vehicles), providing historical clarity.

- Japan: Now lacks this distinction. As you can see, a 1929 I-Go Ko and early 90s Type 89 both appear under the same operator “Japan”, erasing contextual differences preserved for other Axis powers.

P.S. I hope I wrote in the right topic.

Because this distinction no longer exists in the game. To take your example, all of the “Japan” vehicles have a unified flag in the statcard, whereas the Italian ones have different flags, denoting different “operators”. The organisation of these operator collections in the wiki is entirely based on the in-game designation.
So we can have more than one flag attached to an operator country (German and Russian Empire, etc.), but can’t have more than one operator country attached to a flag?
Technically the rising sun was never their national flag so by irl consistency it makes sense, though it was at least a nice way to differentiate ww2 and post war vehicles. Wish they at least kept it on the vehicle cards.
It may also be a sign they’re adding more asian nations to JP. Maybe the one been waiting for years. Crossing my fingers.

Yes, we’ll most likely see South Korea, as it would be funny to see it in the Chinese tree where DPRK plane is already represented.
And as for differentiation, new players can now only do that by interacting with the old wiki’s collections list on the wayback machine (
