About to buy premium tank for USSR, my budget is 5000 golden eagles, i will oftenly play in team on 12.7. So i have choise between T-72 TURMS, T-80УД and 2C38
Get the T-80, don’t get the 2S38

Focus on the T-80UD, T-72AV (Turms-T) is waste of money, 2S38 is better as a support vehicle, considering that T-80UD has decent armor, as you’re not going for pack premium vehicles, this is the best option for USSR.

T-80UD is decent. Ofc lack of reverse gear is… annoying, but nothing new (especially in comparison to T-72. It even faster a bit I think). Armour of T-80U (which itself is 11.7 in TRB, think about it) with Kontact-V ERA and commander can control the gun (comes in handy in the pitch or to fire over some penetrable obstacles), no thermals, but on 10.3 they are rare anyway
2S38 is great… as long as you can use “Glass cannon” type of vehicles. Dont take it by itself tho, not only because of it being a glass cannon, you dont realize it class (light tank) in it full potential (I assume you dont have 10.0-10.7 CAS to come with it?)
T-72AB TURMS… isnt great to be honest. On one hand a good thermals for gunner and commander, commander can control the gun, but on another T-72A armour package and just Kontact-I ERA (aka you gonna be penned by pretty much everything)
So 2S38 is very skill based, and T80 is universal?
You might put it that way. Skill is always involved, but Id say it takes unironically more to use 2S38 in the fullest (and having something else to rely or capitalize on, like aforementioned CAS)

all of them are evenly bad so, choose whichever you like visually the most.
On the contrary, the Turmst has two good thermals but weak armor, UD has no thermals but has good armor (NOT AGAINST 12.7), and the 2s38 is good against helis and usable against tanks.
So pick one that suits your role and playstyle better
Imo the highest value vehicle here is the 2S38, u have decent thermal, HEVT that are really useful against drone spam and heli rush, autocannon that can still do good job at that br since u would be aiming for weakspot or side armor anyway. The other are decent for their line up but at 12.7, probly not unless u want them as mid to late spawn backup.
