What type of B-29 is the B-29?

Now you may think “PSR, wdym?”

…not exactly.

Ya see, there are certain vehicles in war thunder that are based off real world counterparts (like the m1a1 clickbait is the m1a1 hc usmc “Lost Souls”, or or the Su-30MK2 AMV is based on a real camo), what is the B-29s true counterpart?

idk but here’s what the side of the B-29 says

most vehicles in this game are a mix of multiple variants of the same plane, for example the Su-27SM

Would be nice for an option for specific vehicles to specify the exact variant

PSR, wdym?

What’s for sure is it not a B-29-97-BW as the data stencil is incorrect. For starters these airframe were serialled 45-21743 through 21757. (this serial was assigned to a B-29-90-BW)

Tech Tree ‘B-29A-BN’ is correct but vague. Narrowing it down is fairly easy though. External identifiers are:

Block 20 introduced the 4 gun turret., and removed the tail 20mm.

Block 70 changed to the streamlined front upper turret.

So a B-29A block 20 to 65.

I think it’s based on a mix of photos of surviving airworthy and museum-piece Superfortresses. Planes that are quite often TB-29A trainer conversions, like ‘Fifi’ and ‘Doc’. It lacks the radome that was between the bomb bays on B-29As when they were used as operational bombers.

Gaijin correctly added a radome on the Washington B.Mk.I however.
