It’s probably a skill issue from me but today I died a lot to those with my Mirage IIIC, and after trying to take lessons from my deaths I just don’t see what to do… Their missiles are really good, and while one can be dodged they usually send a second one, and after bleeding a lot to evade the first one I find myself in a hard position to survive the second one.
They’re also surprisingly fast planes, so they’re far harder to deal with than others planes with good missiles like the A-10As for example.
So, what should I do to avoid dying in loops like an idiot?
The Mirage IIIC is a high risk high reward plane due to the lack of countermeasures. The only way to way to counteract the risk from no countermeasures is good positioning. This means you should stay high, where you won’t get surprised by anyone (given your radar and the lack of people going high). Staying high also lets you use your radar missile for funny kills.
Additionally, the Mirage IIIC has good top speed, but terrible acceleration, and terrible energy retention. This means you should avoid twisting turn-fights if you want to stay fast (a prerequisite for not dying). Let your great IR missiles do the dogfighting.
However, what I am seeing in your replays is staying low to the ground and getting into twisting dogfights, essentially making it gambling whether or not you will get shot at by an undodgable IR missile.
Stay high, shoot your radar missile at someone if you can, then dive down behind clueless enemies and farm kills with your IR missiles while keeping your speed.
Oh ok, I thought flying low was the best since there’s some superior radar missiles around this br, but then I’ll try that. Thank you!
While you’re here, do you think the Mirage IIIE is an interesting plane to fly? It has countermeasures but it’s also 0.7 higher…
There are really only two radar missile slingers you should worry about: Mig-25PD and F-4EJ and you only see them in full uptiers, and in full uptiers you are pretty much cooked regardless of how you play. Better to take the chances up high.
I did not grind Mirage IIIE, and that says something at least. It seems like a mediocre 10.7 plane. At the same BR there exists planes such as the J-7D which are objectively better than the Mirage IIIE in every single way. I would recommend against getting it, better to get something like Mirage 5BA for flares at a lower BR (at the cost of worse missiles).
Alright, good to know, thank you! I will change my gameplay then, I never really tried flying high since I ate a R-40RD out of nowhere but I won’t see MiG-25s too much now that they’re 11.0 so should be ok
