Any detail that kinda made a vehicle, option, weapon, or really anything have there own little uniqueness in the game.
To give an example, When the f4’s were introduced, there gun sights were held lower. This meant that having to lead planes were a bit more tricky but it did end up making those shots feel much more satisfying.
I miss damage models actually getting deformed, torn and show visible damage. The hole in your left wing, that thing.
Nowadays, more often than not you’ve no idea how damaged your aircraft is without the damage doll.
According to the damage doll, my wingtip is supposed to have so many/so big holes in it, it shouldn't be contributing lift and only drag. Looking at it, you can see damage but it's nowhere what you'd expect
Some planes seem to preserve the old damage decals though, somewhat. Look at the wing of my spitfire. See that hole? Look at it! You can see through it and see the ground!
Now obviously, the wings were made of different materials and obviously, the Spitfire took a cannon round from what it looks like but you’d still expect damage to be more visible in the corsair given the damage doll says that the associated wing section was completely obliterated (other than literally falling off).
Beyond this, oil should linger for longer and splatter onto canopies more aggressively when you fill a plane with lead point blank, like in the old days.
Also, where's the spiderwebbing? Where's the shattered glass? Look at this FW190. Look at the damage doll. You can clearly see that you were shot in the canopy and had been grazed by the hands of death without having to consult the OOC information display in form of the damage doll.
Now look at the spitfire's damage doll. If you didn't have the damage doll, could you even be able to tell that the pilot got a bunch of 12.7mm holes in them? Sure, it's from a replay but I havn't seen shattered glass or spiderwebbing ever in live games.
I also wonder where the condensation from clouds went. I distinctly recall seeing droplets of water running along my canopy when flying in clouds.
This and the fact that maps had more positions that could be very strong but counterable. People were incetivized to learn maps as well which, while it did increase the learning curve would also raise skill ceiling and was extremely nice for the people who wanted to have an elevated experience.
Now it’s mostly just corridors ( screw attica) and stale up front fighting. Kinda sux ngl
The Raketen abschussgeraet M42. Rather than make them fully functional in-game, gaijin nerfed the vehicles equipped with them by removing it entirely from the game:
