Hello, I’m a beginner player who plays mostly air arcade (mainly a skill issue) and I’m considering turning to realistic battles since they seem so much more enjoyable once you know how to play them.
For this reason, I’d like you guys to tell me what you usually get in a realistic battle at low ranks (kills count, time alive, rp and sl…) so I can have a sorta idea of what to aim for.
Focus on having fun than K/D chasing, you’ll get a better K/D that way.
though in something like the Spitfire Mk2 I can usually get a few kills per match fairly consistantly
Generally 4 - 5 kills is an okay game for me at low tier, but then again I’ve been playing for nearly 7 years. Starting out I’d be lucky to have 1 kill. That said I was much happier when I was worse because then a kill felt so much more rewarding. As Morvran_ said, focus on fun. Just try to goof about. If you want to get better go watch youtube videos by Defyn or someone about that aircraft
Can’t give a detailed answer on the rewards but when I was a very beginner I would usually get at max one kill I was and am bad though I’ve somehow improved a little. It’s all about learning and everything, you’ll get better the more you play with a plane though every plane is different.
For air RB, a K/D ratio of 1:1 is good enough in my opinion, and any better will put you above a lot of players performance wise.
The rewards can vary a lot depending on the plane, and especially match length since longer matches give more RP rewards. Staying alive for longer, and not going for the first plane you see (which puts you in a bad position) is a good idea. Also do what Morvran said, and don’t play explicitly for rewards, play for fun too.
Also wanted to say, at the start you K/D ratio might not be the best but it’ll get better. Maybe not if you want to get to top tier fast and abandon the plane the moment you get a better one.
Two things:
-
There is nothing wrong with playing arcade. You might watch some vids on yt from a guy playing highly successful Air AB at top tier: Link https://www.youtube.com/@Aoeilaeiepae
-
The key is not only to learn how to play - it depends also on your crew skills (important for ACM in Air RB) and your knowledge about strengths and weaknesses of own and hostile aircraft - and your ability to “read” a match (opportunities) whilst being aware of the player skill of involved players in your lobby.
-
Imho you ask the wrong question as the outcome (SL & RP) depends on TT or premium, premium account or talisman, preferred plane class, selected or preferred nation - but mainly on player skill.
-
You might consider to state your overall goal whilst playing Air RB (like playing top tier or just Cold War or WW 2 props) and which strategy might be the best to learn how the game works and to progress towards your goals.
What i can see regarding your current inventory:
Playing Sweden and France at prop BRs is not really fun (even as their average players have an experience advantage vs Big 3 players) as their TT props are imho trash / overtiered with just a few exceptions. The only planes i would recommend to play in order to get better whilst not getting slaughtered are:
Premium Yak-3 for France and Premium Pyoerremski and J26 David for Sweden.
I saw you enjoy playing the French VB.10 C-1 at 4.0 - imho a very situational plane which needs a hell of experience to make it work. I recommend using MEC and reduce PropPitch to 80-90% (depending on map temperature) in order fly with WEP the whole match without overheating. I like the plane as you are able to outrun Yak-3s on the deck but you need to pick your fights wisely.
I don’t diss arcade as being easier than RB. RB mains going back to arcade at top tier play like lvl 10s
I get high kills because I know how to play. RP & SL depend if you got premium acc or not and what br are we talking 3.0? 5.0? i think in a game with 4 kills thats 20,000 sl for non premium and 45,000 sl with prem. Don’t know about the rp.
That’s what I do, however having a negative sl input isn’t ideal for playing…
Well arcade physics are infinitely easier to deal with, energy retention is much better as well as maneuverability and there is an aim indicator so yeah it’s kinda easy, in arcade my kill-death ratio sometimes gets above 2 while in realistic battles I don’t remember getting a single kill…
people forget how to play. If you play rb for years and go pack to ab its not going to be easier its going to be harder.
Maybe, but I’m guessing that’s because you forget how to exploit the absurd mechanics of arcade… I shouldn’t be able to do a sharp cobra with a warbird
Btw what plane should I use at rank IV France to learn rb?
Well I just played a few rb games and the very few kills I got actually brought me so much satisfaction, you’re right
And the rp reward was actually very decent, I got 1600 rp from just a kill and a base bombing
Then I’d focus less on getting kills and more on not dying. Its a subtle difference, but should fair you better.
Its better to get 1 kill and not die than dying because you tried to 1v3 or something.
and if you can survive, you can get more kills or strafe some AI
(also as a bit of a side note, the really low BR premiums, like the Spitfire Mk2a Venture which should also be on a 30% sale at the moment are actually usually really really worth the value. So if you have a few quid lying around, it might be worth grabbing one)
True, I’m gonna try that
I sadly don’t have money, I’ll have to stick with the tech tree
Btw, can you explain me how enemies sometimes turn off their markers temporarily?
Its to do with crew skill and the spotting system.
They arent switching it off, rather your pilot can no longer “see” the enemy. But ive always found it an overly buggy system
It indeed seems very buggy, considering I’ve sometimes been in situations where the plane was cruising level above me, suddenly his marker disappeared while he was approaching my vertical, and then the marker reappeared when the same plane was diving on me with full fire. Kinda inconvenient when a plane is invisible until the last moment and then shoots down before you can react
Negative SLs as a battle result show just 2 things:
- You fly no premium plane
- You had either bad luck or you play above you actual skill level
From a neutral perspective seen (to make any significant progress) you need either a premium plane, a premium account or at least a talisman on a plane you like and you are good in it.
Have in mind that gaijin provides crates for free after certain battles which contains talismans. It received in 2022 within 2 weeks 4 talismans (and a 1 mln SL crate) for the Swedish TT.
So before you think about progressing you might develop a strategy to get better in general (with regards to pilot skill) and what is necessary to get there.
Regarding premium planes:
Try to save your war bond points to buy a premium plane for free. I used the free premium Yak-3 to grind the 4.0 VB 10 as i assessed the other French aircraft (i fly WW 2 era props only, and the few real WW 2 jets) as not worth to play either due to a lack of performance or they are not Rank III (for daily/special tasks).
Regarding income in general:
I play just for fun and have all i need so i play without the need to gain SL & RP income. Have in mind that not all aircraft are worth to play them, so you might be forced to buy them in order to research higher ranks - but there is no need to spade those “useless” planes even within the free repair time.
As @Morvran stated: The majority of RP income is tied to stay alive - so if you managed to score (early game) it is important to stay alive. This does not mean that you should camp your airfield aaa or spaceclimb - just pick your fights wisely (like attacking stragglers) and avoid getting outnumbered / caught in unfavorable positions.
Regarding income in particular:
You have to look at the SL & RP multipliers on the stat cards of your aircraft. So it it makes no economic sense to ask for income values if you fly the wrong planes or you are unable to reliably score with it.
Example for a player kill:
If i kill an enemy aircraft in my US P-47 at BR 4.7 - i get 2.220 SL
If i kill an enemy aircraft in my JP (free premium) BR 3.7 B7A2 - get 5.348 SL
So again - state your goals.
Wait you can do that??? will you have it forever or just for a limited amount of time?
The Dewoitine 520 is really fun to play, I enjoyed it a lot
Yes. Forever.
I see them rather often in downtiers when flying the 3.3 Hellcat - and their match results are not bad on average - but as long it is not Rank III and/or considered as “bad” or “challenging” i am not interested in such planes.
So flying a Rank III 3.3 Me 410 A-1 (which is considered as bad plane) and bullying some guys in Spitfires or P-51s is fun and gives you the necessary progress for daily & special tasks - which accelerates your progress in the war bonds shop - which allows you to buy premium planes for free.
