I already know that you can change loadouts after being repaired by pressing J
what im wondering is
Does saving my pilot from ending in a ball of fire benefit me in any way? or should I just leave the pilot in the plane?
To save a few seconds when your plane is dying too slowly, so you can respawn in a new one faster … in Arcade at least.
Unfortunately saving pilot life doesn’t do anything in itself.
But, J-ing out quick (when you’re basically dead) can prove beneficial in some scenarios. For example, if you’ve done a head on and are both severely damaged (or otherwise both going to die if both on fire and got a lot of damage) then if you j-out first you’ll then get the eye-for-an-eye reward when they die. Small prize, but may as well if you’re going to die anyway.
Edit: The award is:
Eye for Eye — destroy an enemy who has destroyed your vehicle;
Multiple reasons actually!
First off, like qpranger said, it’s useful to leave a severely wounded plane, one you know you can’t recover
Secondly, in air battles, if you land on an airfield and repair+refuel, you can “J out” to change load outs (But that’s more useful for realistic or simulator and that’s more something you do in the late game, where loads of jets can have loads of different things to bring to battle)
And lastly, that’s the toxic bad advice here, you can troll people by using J at the right time
Say, you’re in a tank, someone wound real bad your tank but you’re surviving, you know you’re doomed… Then another enemy shoots at you! If you J out at the right moment, you will give the kill to that second enemy, annoying the 1st one who should have gotten you
It’s also sorta true with airplanes, if you J out directly after a bad hit, you can “deny” any assists to other enemy planes
You could also in theory punish an ally who slightly damaged you by jumping out, just check who the kill goes to when you J out (it’s displayed)
I have had games where my killer got 135 less score if I J’d out early enough.
Also, there are times where if you J out, no one gets kill credit. I don’t recommend that to be a jerk, but if your game is close as far as tickets, then it will save your team tickets. If one side is going to kill all of the others and tickets do not matter, I’d let someone kill me to not be a jerk.
Or the opposite - when critically damaged in an aircraft you should eject to prevent kill stealing
