What is your preferred playstyle and why? What could be added/changed for most major playstyle to be able to enjoy the game more?

I’ve been playing the game for 5 years now, and have played many vehicles, ranging from low tier biplanes to top tier modern MBTs, and even a bit of naval. This allowed me to see what type of gameplay I like the most, and how I like to play the game.
I’ve also been looking at the forums from time to time, as well as YouTube comments and Reddit, and I’ve seen countless people arguing about how the game should be played. Now of course, the way a player plays the game is to each their own, however, the game doesn’t really allow everyone to play the way they want.

One of the most popular example for me is how top tier ground RB is so fast-paced, “in your face” and close quarter gameplay. I, and many other players who play regularly at this rank share the idea that, seeing how these vehicles (mainly talking about the tanks) are built, they are meant to stay at longer ranges, with their hull protected as their turret is the strongest part. However, even though we have 3-4 long range maps with engagements up to 3km at top tier, most of the time, the matchmaker chooses smaller maps, often urban. That’s where the other part of the community comes in the discussion. Other people like these smaller maps, where you have to drive for only 30 seconds before seeing your first enemy. Both types of map have their advantages and disadvantages.

Same goes for aircrafts. We have both long range and close range maps, though with a bit more variety compared to ground battles. I’ve seen a lot of people wanting the return of realistic enduring confrontation, and I think it would be a very good addition to the game as it is now. If it were added as a separate game mode, people who prefer slower paced, strategic gameplay would play this game mode, and the other people would still have access to the standard realistic battles mode. And if you play a certain game mode and want to change, then you would have the option to.

As for naval battles, I don’t have enough experience with this part of the game, so I’d be happy to hear what my fellow captains have as an opinion :)

I would like some change in the way the game allows the player to play more freely, without compromising what is already there as I know lots of people like the game the way it plays right now, however it is not really my ideal way to play and I want something new.

I would love to see infantry in game and have more free and open worldish sessions similar to helicopter pve or air sim battles that can last for hours.
And I’d love to see the very recent combat style in War Thunder which heavily relies on drones.
Oh and it would be awesome to see a more useful role for self propelled artillery vehicles and giving them scout drones would kinda fix it.
For air combat I’d say it would be interesting to see some new mission types rather than just trying to kill all enemy players to win. Missiles like protecting a particular target or have some sort of a formation where a specific number of the team plays strike aircrafts/bombers and other fighters try to escort them to a target to destroy it would be interesting.

Man i would get ENLISTED for such game right away!

I play enlisted too; and for quite a while that is (I’ve been on BR V for months).
But enlisted doesn’t have modern combat and the recent style of fighting (matter of fact, no game has it yet and the most modern ones feature combat style from 2010s and I’ve not seen any shooter game offering drone and trench warfare)

I just want more teamwork, and a reason to try and win a match. Voice chat would be a big step up, might actually make the game feel like you are playing with real people instead of bots. Obviously let people turn it off if they dont want to interact with it.

Arma has it.

And unless the game is going to be about one extremely specific recent conflict, we wont be seeing much trench warfare given the fact someone has to be extremely incompetent as army to end up in trench warfare where it becomes war of attrition where people can just fling 20$ drones at each other.

To be honest the combat style they showed in that infantry trailer was very promising and sort of one of a kind specially with the vehicle damage models of War Thunder.

That might be, but unless infantry would be accompanied by major rework of multiple aspects of the game, it will not be balanced either way.

For example, urban maps.

Lets imagine infantry gets added, and you get match on Sweden.

A) the map wasnt reworked, infantry cant enter the houses and is confined to the street with no cover. Squad without AT weapons will become just annoyance as they cant realistically harm the tank with rifle rounds; squads with AT weapons wont fare much better without cover.

B) map was reworked, infantry can enter houses. Good luck trying to play such urban hellscape that is Sweden in tank, against infantry.

In first case the addition of infantry will be nearly useless, in the other it will absolutey break the balance and make infantry “meta” in many scenarios such as urban maps.

Not to mention stuff you would be able to do with heliborne infantry. Just first spawn sharpshooter team in ghilie suits in Huey, circle around enemy spawn, drop them off and let them act as spotters.

Or just plain blocks of good old C4, hidden on a chokepoint leaving enemy spawn. Your tank never got equiped with COIN equipment such as IED jammers? Well tough luck boi.

Warthunder should keep its focus on vehicle combat; as for infantry there are many different games on the market currently.

What I did to freshen things up was use under-performing vehicles and ordnance, then get really good with it. I ended up LOVING rockets (especially the RP-3’s) so much that I developed a library of sights to aim them. Please try them, it really does refresh the game! WT Live // Sight by TheApotheCarrot
