Well technically the company said it would in one of those Q&As. I just repeated the info we’d gotten upthread (which isn’t much).
I didn’t hate it as much as some. The game needed a proper squadron v squadron layer with historical lineups, and always has. But I’ve said many times here imho the collaboration tools it needed to actually work (like a proper alliance chat and the ability to make inter-squadron affiliations) just aren’t there in this game, and tbh most people just played it for the vehicles which are now all in the battlepasses instead.
If they do what they said they’d do and make the next one air-only it’ll be very different from the previous ones anyway, I suspect. Only thing they’d keep would be the name.
What’s the odds of it actually happening this year…?
It was just that they’d let you know more in 2025, it wasn’t a definite ‘gonna have it’, and it was just a hope.
It was a cool idea, and I hope it does get built on.
They’re setting something up with the SEAD and bombing stuff. I can’t say I see clearly how it’ll work yet but it’ll very different than any WWM before (because it’ll be late game jet focussed, not WW2 ground focussed). Whatever that is by way of an event could still happen before the end of the year, or early in the next.
The big problem with “WWM” is in the name, specifically “mode”. It’s not a mode, it’s just a series of (very) occasional complex in-game faction v faction events.

Maybe they should call it a Test Mode possibly.
I’d like to see those field guns they tested in that other PvE mode setup brought in, but also bring back the old Commander with thier tank platoon taking the field.
If we don’t ever get a World War mode, or even more modes with using just your Squadron, and more ways to promote team play. I’ll just continue to play Battlefield 6 as my main game. Would have liked to have War Thunder be my main. but this is just unwarranted of a waste of my time. I specifically got into War Thunder for World War mode. More like More Pay Wall Mode.
I strongly believe World War mode should be removed entirely, and the developers need to take a serious look at reorganising and restructuring the game modes as a whole. For over 12 years, the game has been stuck in a state of stagnation, with virtually no meaningful innovation on the game mode front, just the occasional test here and there that never leads to lasting change.
This lack of progress has become the weakest aspect of the entire experience. It feels neglected, with zero long-term support or development. Even the ground and naval battles are little more than template copies of the air battle settings, offering no unique mechanics or depth to distinguish them.
If the game is to move forward and recapture player excitement, it desperately needs fresh, well-designed modes that break away from recycled templates and inject genuine variety, strategy, and replayability.

I think it would be cool to have a gamemode that was more of a campaign like 128 vs 128 and it uses all vehicle types and infantry with multiple war fronts to choose from. And there would be a total of a dozen matches over 2-3 hours.

When it does come, if it does. It’s likely gonna not going to be amazing. Nor live up to people’s expectations.
