I have Mouse4 and Mouse5 buttons on my mouse and set the Lock Radar/IRST on target to Mouse4 and Fire air-to-air missile to Mouse5 and usually I first lock the target with MB4 and then press MB5 once to activate the seeker (the same thing Weapon lock (air-to-air) does) and a second time to launch it and I entirely avoid pressing the Weapon lock (air-to-air) button (default is Alt + X I think) but it sometimes is buggy and the seeker is not activated the first time I press Fire air-to-air missile button and sometimes I have to press it several times for the seeker to activate which is very important as even a few seconds can decide if you launch your missile in time and go into a notch or fail to do so and die. Is the bug caused because I don’t press Weapon lock (air-to-air) button or it still happens if I press it? and what is the fastest and most efficient way to launch radar missiles in your opinion?
I personally use:
“Select secondary weapon” to cycle through weapons and “Fire secondary weapon” to actually fire said selected weapon. I have the Fire Secondary weapon bound to spacebar but would work with MB5. (I have select secondary weapon set to F)
I’ve found this activates the seeker fairly consistantly.
You will always need to activate the seeker first as we have a hard requirement for LOBL (Lock on before launch) . Thats a fundemental of the current game. In the future, we might see LOAL (lock on after launch) added for A2A weapons, which would mean the missile is just fired straight forward (or a set point using the HMD) and then locks onto something afterwards. Much greater chance of hitting the wrong target, but would be a lot faster.
For locking the radar onto target, I just use the standard lock on method most of the time. With that bound to middle mouse button. But if haste is needed and the target is close enough. I’ll use ACM or HMD to hard lock the target. Though I generally perfer keeping some distance in most of the BVR aircraft I play
after I get a lock, I just use the “fire secondary weapon” key once to activate the seeker and a second time to fire it. I also have the seeker keybind set but I only use it to disable the seeker (purely because I’m used to seeker/fire with the same keybind)
Oh nice way of doing it.
Yes but sometimes it glitches out for me and I have to press the button multiple times for the seeker to activate which is really frustrating specially in close headon situations when the enemy gets to fire the missile before me purely because my seeker is glitched
yeah i use that button only to disable the seeker, specially in IR missiles when I have locked on a flare or friendly and use it to reset my seeker and lock the proper target
Yeah, it can be a little clunky
I have a very similar setup to yours, try not clicking the “Fire air-to-air missile” button twice but instead just once and holding it down. For me that not only both activates the seeker and then 1/4 of a second later launches, it also continues with the next missile so i’m able to launch a salvo of ARH missiles if i so choose.
Ohh nice advice. I’ll try it, thanks for telling me :D
