I’m drive the M3 Lee, but the 37mm M51B1 main gun has no explosives. The 75mm M61 secondary gun has explosives, but both are labeled ‘APCBC’. The BR-243 on the Soviet T-26 is labeled APHEBC, so perhaps the M61 does not have explosives?
No it does. If you hover your mouse pointer over it the M61 shell it shows you that it has 63.7 grams of explosive.
So, is it actually APHECBC, not APCBC?
I think it’s probably just mis-labelled, or that was the real life name and they just didn’t include the HE into the name. But that round has HE.
Thanks. now I can fight with confidence.
A lot of people like to say APHECBC or APCBC-HE for the precise reason of avoiding that confusion between different APCBC rounds.
In real life the designation the US used for the M61 projectile was either APC or APC-T. Even though it has explosive filler and a ballistic cap, both of those get omitted in the designation. And that is consistent with all US rounds. So a 37mm APC shot solid or a 75mm APCBC-HE shell are both just APC even though they are wildly different.
