What is it with the Aim-7M?

I noticed recently since the Sky Odyssey update dropped the F-2A’s AIM-7M are arguably performing worse, yes it has better energy retention and tracking, but on final approach with the target the missile seems to just go dumb and completely miss the target, even though radar still keeps a solid radar lock on the guy I’m targeting, even on shots that should hit like top down shots or 45 degree angle (relative to the target) without the target doing weird goofy maneuvers.

Is it a fault on my part or is there a bug going on? Heck even the AAM3s seems to be missing way more often than it hits since the update dropped

Like I feel whats even the point of the missile being able to reach further targets when it will just miss at the end, it felt way more consistent before the patch when the missile was fired within the (back then) severly underperforming kinematic range.

All sparrows got buffed so idk. Check in replay sensor view to see what state the seeker is in and what its looking at when this supposed dumb moment happens. You might learn something. Maybe it loses lock?

may be a radar issue. sparrows are better overall now so i doubt its that

I’ll check it later today, cause my friends also noticed weird patterns recently with the sparrows and ask-3s

Probably yeah, so weird, even in solid locks with perfect kinematic state and perfect aspect it misses

Even if its a radar issue dont they have inertial guidance that allows them to kinda go in the same direction as target after losing lock? This does drift though so idk

AIM-7M doesn’t have IOG, only the AIM-7P iirc

Yea checked the replay, missile goes into SRC mode after leaving the rail in TRK mode almost instantly, even with a solid radar lock and no chaff being deployed.

Also tried a game in my SU-33, radar has a solid lock with an F-18 but the R27ER goes into the chaff even though the radar was illuminating the Plane and not the chaff. Now this idk if it has something to do with the new missile autopilot or not.

But definitely the AIM-7M is acting weird, on multiple games it goes into SRC mode even with a solid illumination of the target, some even off the rail.
