What happened to the 9Ms?

Theyre just random, as were before

As far as i know there has been no changes to the AIM-9M for quite along time.

the method for flaring the 9m was very simple.
if its in front aspect you can flare it like any other missile
any other aspect and you pop a couple of flares and change velocity vectors

this is decently realistic. altho 9Ms are still lacking some irl features

I think the issue is the same as with the AAM-3s, they are now “reduced smoke” not smokeless so people can see them coming now. Seeker shut off was always pretty easy to dodge, if you saw it coming, but it was paired with a motor that didn’t give you any warning that you needed to dodge.

The smokeless motor has been gone for a quite a few months already I think, but I feel like they also nerfed the IRCCM

Still they feel worse than before

more people know how to defeat them now
even if they dont know it is the 9M, they inadvertedly decoy it because flaring pre-turn has become normal
and yes ive noticed theyve become less potent as well

You can look at this player made data sheet for all the guided munitions in the game: Guided weaponry data (in-game values) Honorable mention for Jaek_ for making amazing videos on missile on YouTube If you want to reach enlightment, then you have to spade the Italian heli line, no talisman/ premium/ boosters - Google Spreadsheets

I don’t know how accurate it is as it is player made but it’s very comprehensive. You have all the main categories of guided munitions in tabs at the bottom of the sheet.

I don’t think 9Ms changed in any way. They’re still the most lethal side-aspect IRCCM missile and a meh rear/front aspect missile.

Magic 2 is too strong, sometimes I can’t even dodge it with engines off and flare spam in my Eurofighter

aim9m isnt too hard to flare from rear aspect unless youre very slow, from side aspect its on its strongest.

Some people are saying that the seeker got fkd

Not officially. Their behavior changed drastically the major update before the last one and got a little better with the last major update again. Nothing of that was ever noted in the changelogs.
They also implemented finally that seeker shut-off ends the moment the flare leaves the FoV instead of after a set period of time with the last major update. The IOG on the other hand is still extremely overambitious if you try to lock an actively flaring target most of the time by drifting into nirvana really fast.

Ironically: They somehow “fixed” the seeker-shutoff which wasn’t working as it should in the beginning (shut-off for 0,x seconds and ignored the flare afterwards even if it still was in FoV) but didn’t mention any of that. But this “fix” nerfed the missile as it’s still missing things like “push ahead” and the like to not make the seeker-shutoff mechanic such a weak form of IRCCM (currently you can spam flares and maneuver and you’re guranteed that the missile lost you after two seconds as its FoV is really big).

This could be a major part of the problem

Already made a report for that: Community Bug Reporting System

I’m 90% sure that something is fucky with the IOG the moment the seeker gimbal reaches its maximum or the target moves outside the seeker gimbal limit following hard maneuvering of the missile. That happened in the video too as the missile flies nearly parallel to the target plane and the target leaves the gimbal limit of the missile for a short period. But the moment the gimbal limit is reached and it should switch to IOG it just turns into a random direction (down in my case but can also be away from target or any other direction).

Intentional nerf… last was making them more visible.

Un-intentional nerfs? Something has changed, they go AWOL more often than they should.

Likewise they have a LOT of outstanding reports for various issues with 0 interest in addressing them, whilst other AAMs have gotten several buffs over the past year

It directly pulls from gszabi’s datamines. Players should always take datamined values with a grain of salt since other factors than they’re aware of can affect things, and because theres no guarantee the datamines will always reflect what is in game. But yes the current values in the datamine are accurate to whats currently in game.

Just tested it. When locking onto a target without firing (just holding the lock) and you reach maximum gimbal, the lock starts to drift into nirvana really quickly and abruptly as if the IOG isn’t working at all. The IOG seems to be only working if the line of sight inside the gimbal limit is lost (target flying behind a mountain for example) but outside the gimbal limit it does quirky stuff (judging by the sensor view in replays it doesn’t activate the IOG at all on a fired missile).

People were mocking Stepanovich for saying that seeker shut-off is worse than IFOV so Stepanovich decided to go back into the game engine and make seeker shut-off worse /s
