What I’m supposed to press to lunch the aim7e-something missiles as in the attached picture? I know it’s possible, because I got shot down when I was in mig23, on the other side of the event. And I was hugging the ground at 40-50m.
Alt + X and Alt + Space are the default keys iirc, but you need to have a radar lock
Radar lock a target and press you combination keys you have to launch normal IR missiles.
1st of all you should know that this missile is not like the aim 9 sidewinder an infrared missile but a radar missile, in this case the aim7 in its dogfight version which just means it turns a bit more Gs or does it faster. I myself do not know it directly.
This means to be able to launch it you need to radar lock, have a green aquare around the target, for the usual missile launch ring to even appear.
Now i assume you dont know how to do that, so start by looking into your options under controls and keybind a button for that (I also advise to go in settings and put the radar in square display as the cone on the side you got aint really helping you with seeing if you got anything to lock at) once you do that you should be able to lock the targets and be able to launch aim 7s at them
HOWEVER as these are simple radar guiding missiles you need to keep a PERMANENT lock on on the enemy till the missile hits unlike the aim 9 which is fire and forget given its heat seeker.
And one thing before you assume your radar can easily lock anything, that would be true if this wasnt a quite early one. It doesnt possess a pulse doppler mode which means ground clutter, the radio waves of the radar bouncing off the ground, will make you unable to lock on anything that flies under a certain hight. Therefore try to go at targets genuenly above you or in the sky in general and not near the ground
There are a lot of radar modes and different things i could tell but for now the basics should suffice
Best to experiment and try around with keybinds and switches by testflying a plane with similar missiles and radar, like all the premium f18s that all got the aim7 aswell (even if a better version than the one in the event on a better radar equipped plane)
Anyway, here are some keybinds I set up which may be useful:
B = switch secondary weapon (very useful when u have both radar and ir missiles, you don’t have a default keybind for this)
R = lock radar (just easier to press)
E = fire countermeasures (I got rid of the default keybind for Q and E since they’re useless)
Q = fire air to air missile (this will also start searching, if u have Q added as search for target as well then it won’t work)
I also set W, A, S, and D to movement keys rather than throttle as they allow u to pull better turns while pressing C (free look)

Ok, thanks Kirbyspieler03-psn and SilentTracker. Great information.
In short, those aim7e-2-bs rockets are useless in the event and after depleting the aim 9L I just need to slam into the ground to not feed the enemy. Got it.
Unfortunately, yes. It is “possible” to get a kill with them IF you happen to find an enemy flying a medium to high altitude, where your F-4E’s radar can actually get a lock. But anything even remotely close to the ground is going to be impossible to lock and use those missiles.
The AIM-9L’s are fairly effective though.
Guy’s anyone caught given someone a hard time over a spelling mistake will have their comment removed as there is no need for it at all.
So you can polity offer the correct spelling so they can fix their mistake or just leave them alone.
“Roger that” o7
