Reason: I wanted an axis/redfor premium propeller plane for ASB.
Decision making process:
I didn’t want captured vehicles that cause IFF issues (no P47, No P51). This also made French yak-3 highly problematic.
I wanted to spend at most 12 euros.
I wanted to avoid planes I found people describe as “Overpowered.” While the pyörrömerski appeals to me as a domestic design, feeling guilty for flying it without manually uptiering it sounded troublesome.
Originally, I almost settled on soviet P63A5 with the restriction that I’ll only fly it when USSR is on side of US or when there was no US to begin with (Eastern Front MM vs germany/italy). The Ki-100-II was also tempting, but the soviet P63A5 paid more SL/min.
I did a quick scan of prices when the sale did come to pass and…
Ki-61-I Hei was only 2000 some GE? Same price as my initial premium, the Mustang Ia?
Temptation filled me to go and buy the hungarian Bf109G2 since it was “just another 6 euros”, but then I converted euros back to forints and decided nope, too expensive!
Went and bought the Ki-61-I Tada after confirming that it’s the same as its tech-tree variant, ergo - no more or less “OP” and detested than any other japanese plane. Plus, I did like flying Ki-61s - felt more like a Bf109 or Mustang that was a little slow than a zero.
Thus,
I bought the Ki-61-I Tada.
After my decision making process, I have come to the conclusion that it is the ideal premium plane - beating out even my beloved Mustang MKIa:
Not stronger than TT vehicles - no guilt over wallet warrioring
Domestic vehicle without any risk of IFF (Mustang fails in this regard by being British and potentially causing confusion against US aircraft. Presently a non-issue as UK/US are always on the same side, and I guess the mediterrean/desert camoflague does make its britishness obvious beyond any doubt.)
Good SL/min in sim.
Historically interesting (it’s an ace’s plane! If only we also had had Pappy’s Corsair as its american counterpart…)
I had 17 naval vessels researched and I really don’t see any point in sinking any more SL into naval considering the abysmal state of naval arcade. I decided to hold back and look again Nov 1st to see if they bothered to fix what they messed up.
I bought a similar number of air and armor. I’ll just concentrate on them thru summer and into fall.
MiG-21S (USSR) and Meteor Reaper (UK) airplanes. The Reaper is really fun and easy to learn as an early jet, much more than the first MiG-15 with which I’ve started (with the terrible cannons placement) :D
They haven’t announced the premium plane packages discounts yet.
But if they have 50% in J35XS i’ll buy it. I already have the GJ currency stored from selling Strasbourg .
I want to play the Drakken , but i won’t go play the TT J35D facing all aspects al the time without CMs, so that’s the reason.
Then when the time comes , if i haven’t already got JA37s in the TT, i’ll buy the 37DI when they put it at 50% and get rid of grinding Sweden. JAS 39 i can find it in other TTs as well so i don’t mind.
It’s not like i’m interested in other planes in the Swe tree, J35/JA37 and JAS 39.
Italy i don’t even care to grind planes after WW2 era. Sagitario , G91Y and YS and F-104S +ASA … i don’t think worth the whole grind. WW2 era has unique things though, en masse.
Every other tree , i’ve already grind it up to t7 at least , so buy what?
It’s not that you see very unique options as well, i’ve bought F-20 last sales just because it was unique , not even for the grind. But i haven’t seen any unique thing for air.
Ground , nope…i think everything is overpriced even with discount. I prefer to get BP premiums and work with them.
Navy…again i don’t think so. I don’t have any interest in more than destroyers and coastal i just play t3 for events. I don’t need more.
I have absolutely nothing for two reasons. First, gaijin doesn’t deserve me spending even 0.30€. And second, the price of the T-72 Moderna in the shop has dropped, so I’m not going to sell it until I make a profit of at least 300€.
When I can sell the Moderna for 350€, I’ll buy discounted stuff with that money.
30% discount on vehicles from all nations when purchasing with Golden Eagles and Silver lions. The discount is valid on all vehicles throughout the entire sale period.
To get nothing you either don’t play at all or you play custom battle/single mission.
Because if you play WT like any average player, you get something on May Sale, even if it’s only a discount on ammo you used in last battle.
Its technically false since participate in the sale by buying modifications. But they were already such a low expense who is going to de facto count that? Ammo and mods are that low in cost its not the most prominent thing that the sales let you save on are vehicles and premium time.
And nothing wrong with that. War Thunder is Free to Play game, if you do not want to, you do not need to support development. You can play for free (and support it by playing the game).
What I mean is, that many of you do not even know the details of the May Sale, where you gain even by playing random battles (because, for example, cost of the ammo is also lowered by 30%).
That’s why I copy-pasted initila post here, because I see that you think that May Sale is dedicated only to premium content.
