War Thunder: The Great War!

Tbh Zeppelins should be somewhat more difficult to take down.
As far as I’ve read, gas bags were too big to effectively deflate in any reasonable amount of time unless an absurd amount of bullets were dumped into them, and usually didn’t even catch fire because there was pretty much no oxygen within them.

What the British had to do to take them down was employing a mix of explosive and incendiary rounds, so that the former opened up the bags to fill the outer shell of the airship with hydrogen (mixed with the already present oxygen) that the latter would then set alight.

Even then, pilots were required to dump whole mags into one or two bags to release enough hydrogen to actually burn the airship down, and I think that, currently, the Zeppelins are a bit too fragile at the moment compared to real life.

I carry 1/2 or less of the max ammo in all vehicles - in hte St Chamond the big rack on the right and one in the middle r empty

I feel part of that is due to the arcade+++ boost we get.

Even without instructor, you can basically prop hang your way to victory without major consequences. Do the same kind of edge-of-stall in a spitfire in realistic proper and you depart flight, and probably life

The St Chamond suspension is accurately modelled as complete carp!

The gun had -10 to +11 degrees elevation range, and 2 (yes TWO) deg traverse either side of centre.

However if could be further improved - later tanks had an addition 8.5mm “spaced” armour on the front. These tanks also had a sloping roof rather than the flat one - you can see the spaced armour around the gun on the 1 surviving model.

And the sloping roof is obvious in some photos - eg

You have to put yourself on a reverses slope to hit Zeppelins - but yeah, I’ve got a couple of such kills :)

Easy kills - probably most of mine last night!!

Things still going well

Also not quite sure how there is glow from the sun here

But no sun anywhere

Nah the suspension is too soft, yes the tank leaned a bit due to its design but not that much. It’s even obvious in the picture you provided

That’s nitpicking at this point XD

Why? A game that makes a point of frustrating the player with a nuclear sun for whatever reason despite players complaining about and how unfair it is that one side gets blinded in a match, which has been an issue for years now… does dumb stuff like this at the same time.

I agree on the nuclear sun but were you blinded even though no sun was visible ?

It could definitely be, but then, why even pick the Zeppelins at all?
They’re expensive to spawn, a pain to actually get on target, they can be relatively easily shot down by ground vehicles AND they get this “debuff” as well?

Idk if it is an arcadey balancing solution like the higher top speed for the tanks is, but if it is, it’s probably backfiring imo

No, I couldn’t see anything, but why is there sunlight without a sun

Welp, my Garford-Beute got ammoracked by a French AI machine gun nest, a single bullet to an machine gun sponson - which didn’t even register in the post-battle shot analysis. The weirdest thing that’s happened to me so far in the event.

Before that I got to experience the pitch black sunset in Flanders when playing as the Entente, and oh my lord it was horrible, the visibility going ti absolute crap. Unsurprisingly the Germans won, since they were able to move up much easier, with our St-Chamonds having far harder time with making their shots. Not a big fan of the even worse weather conditions.

The balance patching has improved things, making the Garford an actually useful vehicle, and Entente actually can have a fighting chance now. However, the extra dirt roads should definitely go, to restrict the Garfords a bit more. I’m a bit saddened though by how badly the historical star, the Mk V/IV tanks are left on the sidelines in all this, even after their traction was fixed. They just don’t have much of a chance in the battle, especially the British one, since the mode has become largely a firing range across the no man’s land.

Also, I really hope the event vehicles get to keep their boosted mobility characteristics at least for AB, to help make them a bit more viable at least.

Pretty sure you won’t want to be playing them in AB - you do NOT want people knowing exactly where you are before you spring an ambush or 2!!

And of course you start with 0 mods…

Well, I don’t normally play RB to begin with, so there’s that. While ambushes are harder to pull off, the guns really need the aiming help to better deal with many of the early tanks, except the St-Chamond. The less than 10 km/h top speeds on the Mk tanks, and even the 20 km/h on Garford are just so bad.

Pls devs, fix the damn suspension of the Chamond. It makes it even harder to use and it’s ugly if you just want to drive it around

What is it about the suspension that you think needs fixing?

I managed to drive through the flanks with the Garford and make it to the spawns, there is no spawn camping protection or warning, this needs fixing ASAP, people are already abusing this.

They need to remove the dirt roads through the no man’s land. A wheeled truck like this is just not supposed to cross the front lines. WW1 Western Front was mostly static for a reason. Nothing could just drive though this hell with 30km/h.
