Dear developers,
Could you please fix the armor of the Crusader tanks?
- Going over the situation:
I really don’t understant why the armor of the Crusaders haven’t been fixed yet, a lot of players that enjoy the british tanks, myself included, have made multiple bug reports for the past few years showing everything that’s wrong with the vehicle’s protection, our community has provided more than enough reports regarding the issue, including suggesting various ways of solving the problem, we also have provided many and many sources backing up our claims, everything ranging from books to manuals, images, diagrams, real measurements, even including a few reports that were only possible thanks to the collaboration of museums housing Crusader tanks. Plenty of sources were provided both Primary and Secondary sources, all of them in-line with the rules of Bug Reporting.
We’ve put a lot of time, research and effort into these reports, providing as many informations as possible, and seeing all of them being ignored for a total time of nearly 10 years, it’s needless to say that that’s really demotivating and frustrating to all of us, seeing all our efforts go literally nowhere, not even a small amount of progress was made ever since 2016.
- The list of vehicles affected:
More recently, with the addition of another Crusader, the Crusader AA Mk. II from the Echoes of Overlord pack, the List of vehicles affected by this issue has grown even more, with now a total of 2 Premium Products and 5 tech tree tanks, being affected. Here’s the full list:
- [British] Crusader Mk. II
- [French] Crusader Mk. II
- [British] Crusader Mk. II “The Saint” (Premium, Starter Pack)
- [British] Crusader Mk. III
- [British] Crusader AA Mk. I
- [British] Crusader AA Mk. II
- [British] Crusader AA Mk. II overlord (Premium, Echoes of Overlord pack)
So as we can see, a total of 7 vehicles are currently being affected by the issues regarding the armor of the Crusader tanks being wrong, incomplete and substantially inaccurate, all of these tanks have plates of armor way thinner than they should be and are missing plates of armor (that are visible in the model by the way), in general, the tanks just desperately need a model update (and an update to the protection model), and addressing these issues is something that wouldn’t really be complicated, because all Crusader tanks share the exact same hull, only the turrets are different.
The worst part about it, is that most issues addressing all these problems, have already been accepted for years and that’s only counting the new issue report system, because people have let me know that some of these issues are even older, because they have been reported in the old forum as well! The main problem being, that the discrepancies with their armor, are very substential, it’s not a minor difference.
The more pressing issue that needs to be Fixed is the armor, but what the devs have been giving us, are minor things like, slightly increasing the amount of smoke grenades or giving a very insignificant change to mobility, without addressing the very old elephant in the room, sometimes it honestly feels like a joke, exept that no one is laughting.
- Showing some of the necessary corrections:
Here i’m gonna go through a few of the necessary changes, these are all based on the informations already provided by the many issue reports done by us, i made some highlights to help visualize some of the necessary changes, that the Crusader tanks desperately need, most of them literally just being increasing the armor thickness of some plates, the worst part is that you can see in the model of the vehicle itself that the armor should be a lot thicker than showed by the protection analysis.
- How it is in War Thunder right now:
- This is how it should be, how it needs to be:
- Here are some images showing measurements from real Crusader Mk. II tanks:

As we can see, the armor around the 2 pdr aperture is around 3" thick (76.2mm) and the armor around the BESA machine gun aperture is around 2.5" thick (63.5mm), through our issue reports, our community has provided visual proof and technical data, that the armor of the Crusader tanks is insufficient, and needs to be corrected.
I don’t thing we’re asking for too much here, when the solution is pretty simple, just make the mantlet CHA of Variable thickness, like in many other tanks, for example, armor dimensions at the point around the 2-pdr be thicker than the armor on the edges of the mantlet, as it should be.
- The internal mantlet in Crusaders Mk. II is incomplete and needs to be finished:
- This is how the internal mantlet should be:
And as i said before, the list of issues is extensive, in the new issue report platform some of them are already a few years old, but they were also reported using the old forum, unfortunately, some of them were lost to time, but, at least the creators of these reports told me that some of these old ones are dated all the way back to 2016.

As a moderator told me, i understant that issues regarding “historical inaccuracies” are low in the list of Issues to fix, but when they’re this many, and are negatively impacting a vehicle this much, i think it would be good to be a little more considerate with it. specially since it has been such a long wait already. And i think this isn’t really a historical problem, the tank’s armor is wrong and needs to be fixed/corrected.
All of this being said, i kindly ask you Devs to please listen to us, recently the T-50 got a model update, a vehicle that had nothing majorly wrong with it’s armor, and after the update the tank got a stronger turret armor, while our Crusader has been desperatly needing an update for such a long time, right now, the Crusader is the only tank at 2.7 with a very outdated model, which is a shame, considering everything our community has done throughout these long awaited years to try and help improve the tank.
and yet, nothing has been done, not a sign of progress or any improvement at all.
So please, Development team, Fix the armor of our Crusader tanks.
