I wanted to share my experience with getting my War Thunder account back after it was compromised. This might help others who find themselves in a similar situation.
The Issue:
A while back, I noticed something strange with my War Thunder account. Originally, I registered using [email protected] (a dummy email for security purposes), but for some reason, Gaijin mistakenly associated my account with [email protected]—a non-existent email. I noticed this issue months ago but, unfortunately, ignored it. I thought it was a minor glitch and continued playing. Recently, I discovered that I couldn’t log in. My password wasn’t working, and to make matters worse, I realized my account name had been changed to something offensive: “Хуй В ганине.” And looked like This
This made me suspect that my account had been hacked, possibly by someone from the “Хуй В ганине KUK ANARHIST” squadron that I had randomly joined Just to research squadron stuff
After realizing I couldn’t access the account through normal recovery methods because of the email issue, I was really stressed. I spent all night waiting for a response from Gaijin Support on their website, hoping they could help. While I was waiting, I came up with an idea: I decided to create a new Google account using the mistakenly registered email [email protected]. Since Gaijin had associated my War Thunder account with this incorrect email, I was able to use it to initiate a password reset.
Steps I Took:
- Created a Google Account: I registered a new Google account with the email [email protected]—the email that Gaijin had mistakenly linked to my War Thunder account.
- Password Reset: With this new Google account, I was able to request a password reset for my War Thunder account. The reset email was sent to the newly created Google account, and I could reset the password.
- Regained Access: After resetting the password, I regained full access to my War Thunder account. I immediately secured the account by updating my password and enabling any available security features.
Finding the Hacker’s IP:
While navigating through the Gaijin app during this process, I was able to identify the IP address of the hacker who had compromised my account. I’ve reported this IP address to Gaijin Support for further investigation.
Hacker’s IP Address:
Lessons Learned:
- Be Vigilant: Always double-check your email when registering for accounts to avoid issues like this.
- Security Matters: Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) on all accounts where it’s available to protect against unauthorized access.
- Stay Resourceful: Sometimes, thinking outside the box—like creating a new Google account in this case—can be the key to solving a tough problem.
- Patience Pays Off: Even though it was stressful, staying up all night and thinking through the problem helped me come up with a solution.
- Don’t Ignore Red Flags: If you notice issues with your account, address them promptly to avoid bigger problems later.
If you ever find yourself locked out of your account due to a similar issue, I hope my experience can help you get it back. Stay safe and secure out there!
Thanks to for helping me!
