Hello. My issue is basically the same as the previous topic here. My game crashes randomly on linux, sometimes it’s right when I go to the hangar, sometimes it’s like 10 minutes into a match. I encountered this issue yesterday and was trying to troubleshoot it. I noticed that it occurs (at least mostly) in arcade tank battle. I also tried to set graphics to low (not minimum) and it seemed to help, I could now play full arcade tank battle without any crashes, but then when I tried to play realistic tank battle with my friend my game crashed again immediately as I loaded into a game and after quick restart and reconnect it happened again. I thought this might be connected with some packages missing on my system because it’s a fresh install and I haven’t really played much on it yet, only one game that’s launched via Proton, so I checked it in CS2 and encountered no problems whatsoever, if that’s relevant. Here’s info about my system (copied template from previous post because I don’t where to get information like this preformatted like that):
OS: Void Linux (Kernel 6.12.18_1)
DE: dwm+picom
OS/Refresh: 1080p@60hz running in fullscreen
CPU: Ryzen 5 3600
Memory: 16GB
GPU: Geforce GTX 970 (Driver: Mesa 24.3.4_1)
I also tested this on my Arch system (same PC) and the game runs perfectly, I played a full arcade tank match without any problems, even set the graphics to high and nothing crashed. It maybe a bit irrelevant because it’s a system that haven’t been updated for couple of months I think, in case this is really a driver problem.
Thank you, Could you please update your Arch install so it is up to date and on the same Nvidia driver version as Void Linux and see if you start getting the crashes on Arch?
I updated the Arch system and it crashed immediately, I didn’t even make it to the hangar. I also don’t know if it’s relevant or not but I just remembered that for some reason on Arch before the game loads there are Nvidia and Gaijin intros, but on Void there’s neither.
Right, Can you install a driver that is newer than 550.144.03 but older than what you had previously that the crash happened with to see if the crash happens with any driver newer than 550 but older than your original driver?
Sorry again for the late response. I just tried installing nvidia drivers that are newer than 550.144.03 but older than 570.124.04 on Arch, and I think there is no way I can do that because there is only 550.144.03 version in the AUR. The only way I could try to downgrade nvidia package is by using version that was cached by pacman which is a lot older. It is also not possible on void because I don’t even have a cached version since it’s a fresh install. I was only able to install older nvidia drivers from installer they provide on their website and 550.144.03 is the latest version that was available before 570.124.04.
Anyway, nvidia driver was updated recently and as of version 570.133.07 everything runs without any crashes, so I think that the problem is fixed now. Thank you for your help.
