np, pls feel free to indicate which parts you have modified (for example you’ve done all the work for the perf part)

In the perfomance section you list 2675 as the horsepower with high ram air at S.L. This has to be incorrect right? The Bearcat reaches 2800 horsepower with high ram at S.L

Yeah the chart lists 2675 as combat power. It makes no mention to ram air

It is correct take a look at SACs and the Final Report on Combat.
The sidewinder needs more hp to run so its less efficient at low alt.
F8F-1 first stage cant even build 70’’ it needs ram air to get there.

its level flight power, ram is the vmax

Does it specify what speed?

Go to Performance → Relevant parts of sources used
There is another graph from the same source on Gallery

I see my mistake. Are there any sources on the water injection with no ram?

Mmh no but there is military zero ram from source 1 that is the last graph from ‘‘relevant parts of sources’’

I saw that. Im just thinking about what speed you would need to climb at to generate enough ram to get to 4800 fpm

you probably get 2600+hp at zero ram so I guess just like current F4U-4B

Yeah thats what promped this. I was comparing the engine to the 4B’s and was thinking that if the 4B can acheve 2800 bhp with ram at low alt, surely the -5 can

in game 4B does it with the first stage like F8F-1 does, tbh maybe irl it could not go above the 2600hp of the 2nd stage but idk because there is no good source on F4U-4 engine in 70’’

Thanks for answeing my question. It must be the way the supercharger is geared in the -5 that prevents it from doing that

At the end of the day it is a high alt engine, its going to have some payback at low alt
That said 2675hp is plenty and the power curve is amazingly good

No dobut about that. In fairness the whole reason the au1 exists is becuse they did not really the perfomance

AU-1 is an attacker, it has the engine of the F8F-1 that is plenty enough.
French boys liked it a lot but ordered a version with better high alt that is the -7

The corsair that was the most used after the war with no doubt it was the F4U-4/4B because it offered performance, price and reliability.

Kinda suprised that the F4U-7 does not have the 32w. Though i guess they were on a budget
