Heyo, the Video Graphics Driver Hung error means that your AMD Graphics Drivers are crashing. Now there are a number of fixes but because one of your drives is disconnecting when this happens it may possibly be a hardware issue.
Here are some possible fixes.
Repair Game Files. When you downloaded the update it might have not downloaded correctly.
Update you AMD Graphics Drivers in the AMD Software. Out of date drivers are commonly the issue with stuff like this.
Play around with your game settings. Sometimes certain settings might mess it up but thats unlikely.
You can also try running your game in windowed mode and it should allow you to tab out without it crashing.
If they arnt already set you PC Power Plan to High Performance.
Try stopping background applications then launch your game and try to replicate the issue. Possibly could just be you have to much running.
Log your PC performance (and make sure all the options are on) via your AMD software and try to see what your GPU, CPU, GPU Memory and System Memory do when the crash happens. This can help you determine if it is something else other than your GPU which is possible due to your disk also disconnecting.
If none of those work I also recommend trying see if the issue replicates itself in other games. If it does that means you most likely have a hardware issue. Previously other people have had the same issue and 90% of the time it ends up being a hardware issue.
My hardware is completely fine though lmao, this has been happening since the last update.
I already did this multiple times, it only works until I shut off the game.
I already made sure they’re fully up to date, the problem wasn’t this either.
I have medium-high graphics settings, settings change nothing lmao.

I have 32gb ram lmao, how would I have too much stuff running? the only things running are discord, steamwebhelper32/64, steamui and steam itself aswell as firefox.
The CPU usage goes completely flat for war thunder when the crash happens, again I dont think its on my side.
I heard many people even on different built PCs with GT1080ti’s and RTX3340’s having these same issues, most textures wont load for them either when tabbing back in, I am sure that it’s infact NOT a hardware issue as this is a decently new pc (got it 2 years back I think) and it has no issues running other games, the only time my pc crashed was when I downloaded 100gb of mods for garry’s mod, I had a BSOD issue with war thunder before that with the same problem, after which i thought it was fixed (For 1 year at least) and now its back???
You probably have to use DDU to fully delete your old graphics drivers and then get the latest one from the Nvidia app. I first tried to fix the issue with just reinstalling my drivers through the Nvidia app but it was only when I used DDU did it actually resolve the issue.
I think it might have something to do with legacy stuff as Nvidia has recently moved away from Nvidia control panel and GeForce experience, either way war thunder doesn’t like the change.
Happened to me as well and I found a solution looking through other posts. You need to turn down a setting called Terrain Displacement Quality. Doing this worked for me.
try reduce the terrain deformation setting, for some reasons at max setting, it will reduce game fps a lot and even more when using sight, reduce it even from max to high will fix the issue.
I had driver crashing during alt-tab/gameplay.
Turns out there was a crypto miner running silently on my PC which was masking its activity in Windows Manager, but Afterburner was showing 100% use.
Malwarebyte detected and removed it, and the problem with crashing driver is gone.
Same message while running at fullscreen. No alt tab, every driver is fresh. After freeze the game either resumes or crashes. Half the time there is no freeze and it just crashes at random. Other games run just fine.

I encountered the same after upgrading my GPU to RTX5060 Ti 12. To resolve the problems caused by incompatibility of the new drivers with game, I get back to NVIDIA driver 576.28 Apr 25. this solve the issue for me.
I recommend to all, reverting to the older drivers (specifically those released prior to May25) to avoid conflicts until Nvidia or Gaijin release new updates to solve the problem

Its rtx on dx 12, dx 11 is no issues. I can’t do anything, even locked on 60 fps the game is crashing. Dropping settings and corrupting textures. Why there is no fix for it for two months? I think there are many people like us.
