I think they want to remove anything that was not at minimum a completed prototype, which would mean the turret would have had to have been built and fitted.
for example the R2Y2, all the components where at least proto typed for at least the version 1 in game, the air airframe flew as the R2Y Keiun and the engines where produced, but there was never an attempt to actually fit them to the airframe. and that was insufficient for it to remain.
Spoiler
Also I found a Chieftain video on the Panther 2 if you are interested… Hopefully the modes don’t get mad cuz its on the WoT YT channel, but its good info.
I see your point. I’m was thinking that because they passed the KRV, which while it wasn’t fully completed, it did have a functioning turret and hull made
Also bringing up wargaming should be fine as it was brought up a batch in the most recent dev blog comparing wows to naval (as well as the abominations wows has in the form of hybrid battleships)
Ah, that makes sense. and yeah I figured the gun fitting wasn’t the main issue. the concept was made by experienced tank designers, I doubt they’d put forward something that isn’t possible lol. Also correct me if I’m wrong, the issue that got the project canned was the use of two piece ammo. mainly the lack of benefit over the increased reload and ammo stowage space needed.
The gun wouldnt fit because not only does it need the breach and recoil space but you need the room for the crew and space to load ammunition. The idea and sketch beingnpassed around was thoughtbup but was completelybdismissed for this reason. In game the breach use to fill the turret, they shrunk the model to fit it in the tanks model.
actually really good info, and yeah the panther II is an interesting story. I do hate to say it, but what of other design vehicles that are still ingame, like the Ho-Ri? it just feels like maybe gijian can loosen the rules a little bit? I don’t want WoT slop tanks, but I’d hate to see stuff like the Ho-Ri go, and feel like the R2Y2 and Tiger 105 can have a place in game. their all vehicles I own so it wouldn’t change much for me, but I’ve introduced a good few people to the game that I wish could get them too.
It wasnt put forward, they dismissed it. Notice the sketches have no internal designs just an external view of what it might look like. They themselves realised it wouldnt fit.
gun size was never the issue, as far as I’ve read (source : entz, Thomas; Doyle, Hilary (1997). [Germany’s Tiger Tanks – Vk45 to Tiger II: Design, Production & Modifications) though digital copies are a bit sparse and I have a paper copy. the concern was on implementation of two piece ammunition, if the source is to be believed.
I dunno, maybe they could do event re-runs of them like they do with the Maus (although it was removed for other reasons as it did have a fully functional prototype) and maybe lock them out of sim or something for “realism”. I don’t think there is much danger of Japan losing any of it’s tanks anytime soon though, still too many holes in the tech tree and I don’t think Thailand will add too much to the lower ranks when they get around to adding the ground sub tree.
I would like a chance to get the panther 2 and tiger 105 though, I was just short of them when they where removed, and even if they are “paper tanks” they are more interesting then the copy paste USA stuff that replaced them
That and the war ended befor the gun would have gotten into production, they only made like 5 of them. 1 L/68, 1 L/70 and some spare barrels. It was far from production.
The groundbreaking (or should i call it gamebreaking?) update introduced deformable terrain and dozers, broke the game like no other update i can recall (for months and longer), is never used by anything and basically pointless besides bomb craters (those are cool at least) robbed the naval mode of an earlier introduction of submarines. me sad. discuss. me angry. pointless waste of development time.
My point is: snail does what snail wants. a lot of times very slowly and awkward, it sometimes slivers across some razors, but theres no stopping it and complaining about why it does what it does and where it goes does nothing. If a couple of ships stir such strong emotions you should use that to your advantage. Fuel that hate into a naval grinding spree to get the ships you hate so much ;-)
xD yeah. That groundbreaking incident probably happened because they decided for the most pointless mechanic to be needed but then realized that actually 95% of the developers were working on naval. And then it all went downhill? I mean i and everyone else here has got no clue about how gaijin is working on the game and how they assign their workforce to which part of the project but i can already tell that thats not how it went down. If you want to believe that ground rb (top tier) and maps are such a mess for the biggest part of 13 ears now and it is the main problem that now after all those years theres one update where new ships play a big role (but maybe actually wait for the dev server or better the update first?), feel free. Everyone can believe whatever he/she wants i won’t stop you.
This perfectly explains it. Gaijin does as Gaijin wants.
If you troll through the forums and statistics enough, you can see the correlation between when there is a sudden influx of complaints (usually from people that have never posted before) and a few months later when Gaijin makes a change.
This is what happened to the R2Y2’s.
Things only seem to happen quickly when enough Youtubers (Spookston for example) make videos openly pointing out the BS, and the RDF/LT was the perfect example of that.
wow what a surprise. but people that need a strawman for why their favorite mode is a mess need to believe, so go ahead. in the end it won’t change a thing unless those people would finally decide to apply at gaijin’s in hungary and finally put in some real work and change the whole thing, so whatever i guess
You ever used it as in the entrenching mechanic? I never said it is bad that it is in the game but that whole thing definitely needed a big workload and wasn’t and isnt such a big contributor to a better game experience. Maybe pointless was a too strong word, not necessary (especially in the form they added it with the entrenching and considering the state of where the game was at back then) would be more fitting. its still good that its here, don’t get me wrong, it is just never used and especially not used efficiently (not even sure if the terrain deformation under the tracks were already there before groundbreaking). But snail does what snail wants, they added it, it broke the game, they fixed it, it’s in game now and working whats the point of going crazy about it and pull stuff out of my nose like my it-robbed-naval-of-submarines claim that i did to hope you could maybe understand it is a bit pointless? If they decide they want to add whatever they add but i don’t like it, me punching a pillow in my room for 2 days won’t change anything?
Also i feel if we have a complete blueprint of a ship its Pretty Easy to know its characteristics
Planes you move the engine 10cm and you have a totally different plane regarding handling
Alot of prototypes are ufos already
So paper planes would be the worst
