Variable Sweep Wings?

Going back and spading some su22/mig23/27 and seems like auto wing sweep is pretty much useless, not sure how a computer lags behind the mechanism itself or whats going on. Either way I found 3 new keybinds and have this all set up but I don’t really understand this system fully.

I understand that with the wings fully swept out you have better turn performance at the cost of worse energy retention/top speed due to rip? And the opposite is true for fully folded in, allowing you higher top speed/retention but worse turn performance?

If I’m just flying in a straight line at the start of the match is there any benefit to having the wings out? Do I climb better? How should I ease in and out of 0/100%? Should I play with in between values in some cases? etc.

Can anyone explain in detail the mechanics and usage of variable wing sweep? I dug around here and youtube and couldn’t find much on the topic.

Im not really an expert and I dont know the precise time to use what sweep for the swing wing that I do play (the tornado) but essentially no.

If you are taking off from the runway, then its worth it because you have a lower stall speed, but once up past your stall speed with wing retracted, you probably want your wings retracted.

How I do it.

Do I want to go fast? Wings back (100%)

Do I want to go slow? wings forward (0%)

Do I need to turn better? Wings somewhere in the middle (for the Tornado I think thats about 60%?)

but usually I just trust the auto-mode 99% of the time as I cant be bothered to faff with controls for it in ARB. I do have a setup for ASB but again, i dont always bother. Though I am playing either a mud mover or the worst turn fighter in the game. So its not something I really pay much attention too
