The V2X Tempest is an American mobile combat platform designed to address the growing threat posed by unmanned aerial systems (UAS), particularly drones used for reconnaissance and attack missions. Its development reflects the need for a lightweight, cost-effective air defence system that can be deployed rapidly. Publicly introduced by V2X in October 2025, the Tempest was developed using a Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) approach, which involves adapting existing commercial technologies and vehicles rather than creating an entirely new military platform. Its known configuration consists of a lightweight Can-Am 4x4 all-terrain vehicle equipped with a one RADAR RPS-42 multi-mission radar and two launchers carrying AGM-114L Longbow Hellfire missiles. This combination prioritises mobility, rapid deployment and the ability to detect and track aerial targets, although in War Thunder whise it´s only armour is the speed and agility;but can be easyly destroyed by bombs,artillery atacks and MG´s even if the are not heavy.
Regarding its use in combat, the Tempest has been linked to air defence operations in Ukraine during 2026, where it has reportedly been used against Russian Shahed/Geran one-way attack drones and maybe lancet and zala loitering munitions. According to published reports, Ukrainian forces credited the system with intercepting 21 drones, although this number has not been independently verified. Its operational concept involves detecting and engaging aerial threats while minimising the time spent in exposed positions, then relocating to reduce the risk of enemy retaliation. The system’s development is also in march: in September 2026, V2X announced a contract worth up to 19 million dollars with the United States Marine Corps to supply Tempest vehicles and related services. Overall, the platform reflects a broader shift towards mobile, modular and rapidly deployable counter-drone systems, designed to complement traditional air defence capabilities on a battlefield increasingly shaped by the widespread use of drones.
