USSR (and by extention China and other diesel using nations) diesel fuel tanks explosion rate

I’ve been wondering if it was worth putting a post on this forum about this, but here goes…

In terms of fuel tanks, I’ve noticed that most of my deaths have been to my fuel tanks exploding. Sometimes it says fuel tanks exploded, even when my ammo gets hit after my fuel tanks. But around 6/10 deaths are due to fuel tanks exploding, not even my ammo getting hit.

I wouldn’t be complaining if this made any sense.

Diesel has a higher flash point than petrol:

“Diesel fuel typically has a flash point between 52°C and 93°C, classifying it as a combustible liquid. In contrast, gasoline has a much lower flash point of approximately -43°C, making it highly flammable. Furthermore, the autoignition temperature—the temperature at which a substance will spontaneously ignite without an external ignition source—of diesel fuel ranges from approximately 210°C to 300°C, depending on its specific composition. This is considerably higher than that of gasoline, further illustrating diesel’s lower volatility. “

(Sources: Flash Point: key temperatures and safety risks of flammable substances | Artidor Explosion Safety B.V., Is Diesel Flammable or Combustible?)

-US Army Technical Manual (TM 9-1300-214): Notes that diesel tanks struck by KE penetrators (like APFSDS) may rupture, but diesel rarely ignites unless there’s atomization and a source of ignition.

-NATO STANAG 4242: Describes fuel vulnerability under ballistic impact. Diesel is listed as low ignition probability under kinetic impact without secondary ignition factors (such as electrical hazards).

-Jane’s Armour and Artillery 2005–2006: Notes that internal fires in diesel-fueled vehicles are more commonly caused by HEAT rounds or ammunition cookoff, not KE penetrators.

So, what am I proposing?

Its simple:

Give anything diesel engined its proper characteristics. This means they are less likely to explode compared to petrol engined tanks, and will still protect the crew by catching spall.

Yes, this may mainly benefit USSR tanks, sure, but it will ALSO benefit the:

-US
-South Africa/UK
-Sweden
-Germany
-The UK
-Japan
-Poland
-South Korea

So, what do you think? Should Gaijin reimplement/redevelop diesel fuel tanks to match reality?

Feel free to comment if i’ve missed anything as well! Any sources would be beneficial too! Thanks :)

I support a change to the logic of fuel destruction and at least, to counter any kind of advantages making fuel tank an active module inside the tank other than just catching on fire, like reducing speed of the vehicle (very annoying) until refueled at capture point or using a spare fuel tank, but those are all ideas.

Thing is
It’s a cop out for gaijin to nerf vehicles
It outright needs to be removed.
You can’t balance it with nato vehicles
Can’t balance it with any nation
So therefore it needs to be removed

I also suggested this as well
We need to get rid of fuel explosions

I’ve seen several times Russian-Chinese fuel tanks eat loads of APFSDS and nothing happens.

i would have posted this also but i am to lazy to type all that stuff

Confirmation bias bro

I remember hearing somewhere that fuel tanks are bugged and sometimes when you kill a tank it will say it died to a fuel explosion even if it died to crew loss or ammo detonation

Yes, but I’m talking about the times when its clear ONLY the fuel tank was hit (or fuel tank + other non explosive modules)

its already in the game
look at the M60-120S(shoot out driver it becomes a turtle)or abrams see what happen when u struck the front fuel tank

Send a video to the devs they’d be more than happy to fix that for you.
If you’re shooting a T-90M btw it’s not happening unless it’s the engine and only a small section of it (the Russian mains had to literally data mine and submit multiple bug reports like spamming it to get that fixed)
All Russian tanks have a “chance” of it happening
It’s not 100% guaranteed it never is but it’s still a major factor in unskilled 1 shot kills on Russian vehicles

It is but we aren’t talking about that. That’s obviously tho.
I have a video of the 2S38 during testing where if you only shoot the fuel tank
10/10 times
No spalling on the crew
It always kills the tank in 1 shot
