This is thread for useful helicopter tips. These will primarily apply to all modes, except ground simulator battles. The thread will be updated accordingly.

Unguided Rockets

Spoiler

Unguided rockets are more versatile than most players give credit. For stock players, these will serve as the backbone of your arsenal. Rockets can be used on other aircraft if no other option for self-defense is available, but practice is required for accurate shots, as CCIP does not work on air targets. For the best kill probability, engage enemy tanks from the sides or top. Even low pen rockets can kill most MBTs from these angles.

Rocket Rushing
Rocket rushing is exactly what it sounds like. Spawning with rockets and rushing toward the enemy. This tactic will often lead to a death with no kills and is one of the least consistent ways to get kills. CCIP may assist with accuracy and engagement range, but the odds of survival remain slim. You will often be shot down before you can find and engage enemies. For the best results:

  • Use FLIR or zoom camera on approach to spot targets
  • Use trees, terrain and buildings as cover on approach
  • Look for enemies that have been spotted by teamates
  • Avoid flying in a straight line after firing your rockets
  • Mark the enemy spawn on the map so you know where the SPAA will spawn
  • Flank the enemy team and attack from the sides
    Survivability: Low
    Kill chance: Low
    Spawn cost: Low

CCIP Rocket lobbing
CCIP Rocket lobbing is using you CCIP in conjunction with unguided rockets for accurate rocket shots. When done correctly, this provides you with a relatively consistent way to get kills. For the best results:

  • Use terrain trees, and buildings as cover or concealment.
  • Use FLIR or zoom camera and the “set target for squad” keybind to find and mark tagets.
  • Move all of your rockets to one side of the helicopter for better CCIP accuracy
  • Dip back behind cover right after firing your rockets
  • “Peek” over your cover using 3rd person view
  • Use the “Hover” keybind while looking for targets when behind cover or concealment.
    Survivability: High
    Kill chance: High
    Spawn cost: Low

Air-to-Air rocket engagements
Using rockets against air targets can be tricky, but it is possible. These engagements are extremely situational, and in most cases rockets will be used as a last resort in defense from other helicopters or planes.
They are best used when an aircraft is flying directly at you and attempting a gun run. If you have flares, its is best to deploy them incase the enemy has a lock with IR missiles. For the best results:

  • Fire your rockets in the flight path of the aircraft
  • Set your weapon ripple to “S”
  • Move in the direction of the bottom side of the enemy aircraft.
  • Break the enemy’s ankles by quickly changing directions
  • Always face the aircraft to reduce the size of your target silhouette.

Survivability: Mid
Kill chance: Low
Spawn cost: Low

Air-to-Air missiles

Spoiler

Air to air missiles are another consistent way to get kills. While the use of the weapon might be situational, the frequency in which you encounter enemy aircraft provides you with a nice window for decent results. Using AA missiles will allow you to engage targets while remaining safe from SPAA, though your chances of survival decreases if an enemy aircraft is aware of your position. For best results:

  • Stay behind cover and concealment
  • Use ambush tactics; pop up, fire missile, back to cover
  • Hover behind cover (bars) while looking for air targets
  • Located enemy aircraft using your RWR
  • Use your IR seeker to scan the horizon for low flying planes
  • Keep your radar off to remain hidden to other aircraft
  • Fire at aircraft that are flying toward you or flying slowly
    Survivability: High
    Kill chance: High
    Spawn cost: Low

Random tips:

Spoiler

For larger guns, its best to set your fire rate to low to
conserve ammo and reduce recoil.

Since Rockets don’t have convergence, you will need to aim slightly off-center of the CCIP crosshair for accurate shots. This is less of an issue when further away from your target. The same applies to guns.

Always keep personal defense weapons incase you encounter enemy aircraft. If you don’t have AA missiles, at least carry a gun or use rockets as a last resort.

I personally found that mixed payloads yield the best results. Some of my best matches have been first spawns with a load of rockets and AA missiles.

Such a bad tip not recommending the taiwanese helis. OH-58 and ah1w are hellfires slingers at a lower br.

Chinese PRC helicopter only advantage its the aam.

The US tech tree will cover those.

It would help to state the mode for which you compiled this.

I wouldnt say stingers on Soviet helos are Good AA missiles.
especially since those doesnt have proxy and real small firing window.
And Chinese TY 90’s are not just good, those things are God tier on helos.

Stingers on AH’s is kinda meh, but least you can lead the shot.
Ah1Z gets 2x 9M’s what are quite nice, with full hellfire load

you are completely wrong about the z-11wa

it has thermals and great maneuverability, pretty nice things to have at 8.7

Fixed the thermals, but the maneuverability isn’t as good as the AH-6M or Z-10/Z-9 which is what I used to scale maneuverability. It’s no better than the AH-1 series of helis.

They’re good because they’re all aspect and you get more than 2 in most cases. Not a fan of the small seeker window but I haven’t had too many problems getting kills with them. Just have time the shots for moments where fast movers are either flying toward you or slow. They work great against other helicopters.

Don’t have too many options but done.

Maybe because it’s not good as AH-6M, Z-9 or Z-10 justify their battle rating differences, capabilities and other stuff, I honestly couldn’t understand where you’re taking your basis from? Z-11WA for example: is it “ass” compared to what exactly? Other helicopters at same battle rating, rank or tech tree only?

As for “copy slop” regarding squadron vehicles and premium vehicles in my honest opinion is wrong, it is relative, there will be unique-ish vehicles and some others don’t (e.g. Z-10A and Z-10 from the regular tech tree) or for example Mi-35P do give new capabilities compared to the Mi-35M (i.e. 9K121 Vikhr), which despite having the same airframe is definitely new in gameplay for this platform.

The ratings, “Ass”, for example, come from the possibility of survival after a kill and overall performance in gamemodes. While each helicopter has their respective place in their BR bracket, the gameplay restricts them from reaching their full potential. Lets use the Z-11WA as an example again. You have a 3km ATGM range with no autotracker. You’ll have to get well within range of SPAA and proximity rounds while manually guiding the warhead. The Z-11WA also lacks CCIP, forcing you to get within gun range of just about everything to get a clear shot with rockets or guns. The odds of survival are slim. Combine all of that with a small payload, and you get “Ass”.

Z11 its ass in compare with the gazelle at same br, which also have access to HJ-8E

I just did a test. The Z-11 has a slightly better roll rate, but the Gazelle has better acceleration and top speed.
Z-11 top speed

Gazelle top speed

Yeah still the best advantage its the HJ-8E. That extra range gonna work fine against those spaas.

Pd: im playing it with my 10.3 lineup and the tandem really helps.

I completely forgot that the gazelle had the HJ-E8. That extra km of range does help a lot.
