USA tech tree NEEDS their current air defense systems in game

You may not realize this, but there have been updated versions of those trialed for the M-SHORAD program. Even if they just used the stingers, if they actually correctly modeled the dual mode seeker and IRCCM they’d be very relevant threats.

The updated M6 linebacker prototype got a 30mm M230LF with proximity rounds, and a choice of Stingers, ground launched hellfires or the AIM-9x

The Sl-AMRAAM which was integrated into the NASAMs program as the high mobility launcher has both AMRAAMs and AIM-9X’s, both of which can LOAL, or utilize datalink.

And the US military has NASAMs and the M-SHORAD, as well as the only mass produced DE SHORAD system currently afield.

So saying the US doesn’t have SHORAD, is a very incorrect, and blanket statement.

And being an old system doesn’t really mean much when the systems are BR’d by capability not age. A well modeled mobile HAWK would be a very relevant system, despite the fact that it’s older than most kids playing the game.

In 2007 raytheon introduce the development of the SL-AMRAAM-ER.
Also I am fairly certain it most often was sold and used C-7s.

us has more mideum range air defenses and really short range defenses, but not a modern shorad. The hawk would struggle against modern cas which can easily out manuver the missiles, and a standard hawk launcher only carries 3 missiles at a time as well. NASAMS would easily outrange competitor shorad systems.

The US has NASAMs and two different M SHORAD vehicles, one being the only laser SHORAD in scale production. Saying they don’t have a modern system is entirety false.

And the Hawk and I-Hawk are not being outmaneuvered by “modern CAS” they went away because the Patriot is more capable, not because they weren’t plenty lethal. There’s a reason they’re still in service

Plus if you really want to go down that road, the Hawk system has been modified to fire Sparrow, AMRAAM, and Standard MR and AGM-78, so there are plenty of options….

We can only dream but I wouldn’t be surprised if this was added as a way to balance top tier at the moment, SU-34 and F-15E spam is too oppressive at the moment.

Sure, but War Thunder doesn’t care about effectiveness or PoK (very much) - I mean the R-27ER never would’ve dominated if they did care. My list was based off of range over anything else.

Not just the US, pretty much every nation that isn’t Russia needs more SPAA.

Do we think the MML (Multi-Mission Launcher) Could be a viable option? Seeing as its got multiple variants, such as the ones seen carrying SL-AMRAAMs, and the more modern one, having 15 launchers, and a towed FCS radar (the AN/MPQ-64 to be specific).

honestly IDK, it definitively would fit in game but im not sure how much of an improvement it would be over ADATS because right now aim120 is very easy to notch

Depends what’s loaded i would think. I believe it could load either AMRAAMER or 9Xs.

thats true, but I doubt they would add it with AMRAAMER because isnt that a very different missile while they already have a 120C in the files (iirc its a 3 or 5) so they would probably give it SLAMRAAM

I dont really see an issue with adding 9X for ground launch or helis because it will be very limited range but dont think the game is ready for it on jets

You could just get a harrier and go into vtol mode and use that as a spaa ive done it before

You are correct, the seeker should be uncaged with a smokeless motor but gaijin seems to think otherwise, I have made several reports about this, as-is it’s not any kind of upgrade.

I feel like it would be a very good counter to maybe the Pantsir S2 if it’s ever added. While it is true, AMRAAMs are very easy to notch, it can also carry AIM9Xs, Stingers, Hellfire’s, and the TAMIR missile seen in the Iron Dome air defense system. I’d also like to add that any amount of added air suppression is needed, with Britain, Italy, and the US having by far the worst top tier SPAA.

Kinda like how the Stingers are mislabeled, the FIM-92K is supposed to have datalink capability but it isn’t implemented. Either that or it’s a typo and they meant to use the FIM-92J. Honestly I would like to see things like a HAWK launcher with a towed radar. We currently have no Semi-active radar homing (SARH ) or Active radar homing (ARH ) missiles being used for ground based AA. Literally everything is command guidance, Beam-Rider or IR guidance…

No, its just gaijin not modeling US equipment properly, just ask the TOW-2B where it’s second warhead is.

Hopefully with the SLAMRAAM, this could balance out spaa
