Air or ground?

For Air RB:

USA props is suffering. Your teams all load a million bombs and fly at lawnmower altitudes to rush bases and die.

The instructor also has no idea how to fly mustangs properly, not using the rudder to fly coordinated and instead flops them around like a dead fish. Corsairs dont suffer as bad, but instructor really hurts US plane flying.

Jetswise, the F2H2/Sabre/F3H/F8U/F8E are very nice and can give a smooth progression experience. However, the instructor remains very stupid when it comes to the rudder and these planes flop around like a fish when trying to fly them

For ASB:

USA props are very fun to fly as long as you treat them right. Without the instructor flopping them around and bleeding all your speed, the packard & allison mustang can legitimately win 1vs1 fights against peer Bf109s provided you properly execute the lead turn. They’re very difficult planes to escape from once they’re on your tail if you try to keep the fight fast.

And if you slow down, the mustang can just disengage and reset without much risk to then come back and shoot you as you’re trying to recover energy. I really like the P-51 cannonstang (altho been mostly flying its british premium variant lately). MEC is almost mandatory. Even early mustangs got great visibility

Corsairs are also very fun to fly, with the F4U-4B being considered a meta top-grade aircraft considered overpowered by some. Notably, F4U-4 despite being lighter due to 50 cals has worse power-to-weight than the 4B as it has a far better engine. Corsairs are super versatile with their flaps and can dogfight just about anyone and run away if they can’t. MEC is almost mandatory. Late corsairs got jet-like visibility, early ones kind of suffer at defensive flying due to the bulletproof plate over your head making visibility worse rearwards.

Hellcats in sim are surprisingly competent. You have incredible high speed turn rate to get a position and then sit there with no escape. You do bleed that speed super badly so don’t get greedy. Terrible rearward visibility like early corsairs, so best flown in VC with a wingman to avoid getting jumped or fly with strict discipline.

USA jets I don’t fly enough to comment however the F3H and F8x are far more pleasant to fly without the instructor flopping the nose all over the place.

For russia,

Air RB:

Your planes are optimized for the RB meta. Low altitude, rapid response air defence. You got low endurance, but it’s enough for air RB.

Instructor doesn’t flop the planes around like a fish either in my experience.

Air SB:

I only really flew I-185 M-82 and Yak-3, but both planes are incredibly fun to fly. They have a vulnerability to wing stalls and overheating, and it’s easy to overspeed the yak-3 as its engine is so good, it sits just below its rip speed more often than not.

Your big issue is endurance. You have like zero ammo, so you either need to be incredibly good at gunnery to land high-aspect long-distance deflection shots or loiter longer in your fights until you get a cleaner shot off of someone’s six - which leaves you vulnerable to third parties.

Thus for air RB props:

Go russia to save your sanity.

For Air RB jets:

I don’t have russia so cannot comment, but american navy jets are fun.

For air SB props:

Both are fun, russians can get position more easily while americans have no concerns about ammo letting you take pot-shots at worse positions.

For air SB jets:

Don’t fly enough to comment

USA for Air, Russia for Ground

Really depends what you want. If you want beautiful aircraft with wacky performance, go Russia. If you want bad teams and mid ground ordinance, go US. I’d honestly recommend Sweden or Japan over US, and with Russia they tend to have better teams but it has the “Buh Mussian Rias!” Allure and you end up with many a poor player.

Notably: (Air)

China has the (mid cause Gaijin messed them up) semi-highs of Russia and one of the highs of US.
Japan has the highs of America (F-15J, F-16A OCU) alongside the pinnacle of Sweden (JAS39)
Italy has the high of Germany (and better due to the addition of PIRATE), the midhighs of Russia (MiG-21/23/29) and the Pinnacle of Sweden (JAS39C EBS)
Israel is just micro-America
France is completely different (with the exception of BeNeLux)
GBR has the pinnacle of Sweden, the pinnacle of itself, and could potentially get the Su-30 or Rafale through India
Sweden is completely different with the exception of Finland and the Gripen being all over

Notably: (Ground)

China is it’s own nation groundwise and not one I can speak on, but it does pretty well
Japan’s high tier has some of the best MBTs currently though is severely lacking at lower/mid ranks and lacks a viable SPAA
Italy’s higher tier domestic vehicles suck, though their lower tier stuff is decent. It’s just a German Amalgam
Israel sucks
France is pretty good, especially domestically, though it does have Leopards as well
GBR is good at mid ranks but the Challenger is very bad
Sweden is alright in the domestic field but with a lack of a decent heavy (other than the Kungstiger) and past 8.7 just being spinoff Germany (save for the CV90s) you might not enjoy it as much following Germany

Get whatever you like more

Maybe even try a minor nation

Neither, go for some underrated nation, true source of good gameplay experience. USA and USSR is by far the most time consuming tech tree behind Germany due to the gapeless tech tree.

Italy, France, Sweden, or Britain. The other 2 major nations aren’t worth completing. 6.7 is the sweet spot for the USA, while 8.7 is the sweet spot for the USSR if you’re wondering.

You should decide it yourself, if you seriously plan to fully grind another TT, spend some time just looking at stuff through every nation and choose what you like more.
PS I would only recommend not to throw away smaller nations, uniroinically they can give you more fun.

Play Russia if you want to see how some random T-34 flies and one-shots you mid-air, and how come the IS-2 becomes invisible. All you have to do is to press “activate Russia Bias” and you’re good to go.

For US, I have until rank II, and my advice is to get the Sherman M4A3 105. It cannot be penned by most tank frontally, and it has a 105mm gun that can be used to one shot tanks, and the 12.7mm machine gun can shred light tanks, open tops, etc (Panzer II, BT-5 and 7, Flakpanzer I). I also like the second SPAA in Rank I, the M15 Halftrack, which has a automatic 3,7mm cannon, and two 12.7mm guns, which can shred planes if you’re that kind of people who want no air pollution, and can also molest a lot of tank on the side, not to mention it’s good mobility. The LVT A(1) you get as reserve is also good since a a lot of shots will be eaten by the machine gunners and by the hull. As long as you carry less than 30 shots, the hull is so empty that most tanks will take 5-9 shots to fully kill you, in which by that time you can kill them already.

Russia, from a Texan.

I only play up to 8.7, but I would go US. There’s so many great vehicles to play. I find the Russian mid tiers a bit boring.

I agree

Sleeping on the F3D smh

What??? I read this three times…still not sure if rant, typo or something else…
To be clear…T-34 is a TANK…afaik there is no plane with same name…

If this is a joke or irony…missed the point…

No, I meant that a T-34 can fly. Yes, the T-34 in the Russian army tree in rank II. (It is a lag but people can still shoot at you when they are glitching IMO).

In RPG terms

For + 50 % to armor/damage/evasion and handholding …go for Russia
