27ER on release wasn’t just the best SARH missile. It was the best by an absolute country mile. You could missile joust anything and always be certain of getting your missile to connect LONG before your opponent at virtually any range.
Plus, you couldn’t really just dodge it by doing the ‘spiral roll anti-sparrow’ trick. The only thing that stopped matches from tipping into just MiG-29s wiping out entire lobbies was the borked 29 flight model and the blessing of them only being able to carry 2x each.
Still utter hell to play as anything not USSR at that point. In fact the ONLY way to negate them would be to multi-path - on release with the RWRs and airframes available you’re not notching and chaffing an R-27ER unless you did it quick and virtually as soon as the missile left the rail.

Weren’t some of those added in a different time when they did allow capture vehicles when they did things differently but anyway they do still allow them but with more requirements than it simply being captured
