US Tank Engine "Sounds" are incorrect

While the upcoming patch seems to be changing gun sounds I thought it might be a good time to bring up something that has always bugged me about USA engine noises. We do not need new engine sounds but rather to swap around existing ones.

One of the earliest examples is the M4A1 uses its correct radial engine noise. However, despite them sharing nearly the exact same engine the M3 Lee/Grant tanks use the Ford GAA sound, from the M4A3. These all used the Continental R975 engine.

Again with the M1A1/T1E1 family, they used large radial engines, regardless of their transmission. They used the Wright G-200 radial engine. They at the very least could use the M4A1 or M18 Hellcat sound tro better replicate their engine.

The next culrpit is the M4/T26, it uses the same 460hp radial engine from the M18 thus it definetely should have the same engine sound. Both used the Continental R975 engine but rated at a higher horsepower.

The last family of vehicles is the M47, M48A1, and M103 vehicles all used the same gasoline Continental-1790-5B air cooled 810HP engine. They really should all sound like or similar to the M46 Patton. They are NOT diesel engines and thus should not sound like the Continental AVDS-1790-2A 750HP diesel engine fopund in later M48 variants, M60s and the M103A2.

Again I do not necessarily think we need new engine noises but at least be consistent and accurate with the ones we do have. I am not sure this is the proper channel to suggest to the devs for change but I thought I would bring it up here.

After years of trying to not listen to vanilla game sounds I have also made the cross to a sound mod. Personally I would recommend IWSM if you are looking for immersion. Also, if you are on PC that is.

lower the Abrams engine noise once more and good

I am on PC and previously tried Epic Thunder, but at least for solving the issue above. The mod changed the engine noises but they were just more realistic sounds that were inaccurate to the tanks.

I’m glad someone finally brought this up.

It’s bugging me so much for YEARS that the early M48A1/Magach 1 Patton variants in the game all use and share the same exact engine sound effects as the later M60/Super M48 upgraded tanks even when their rear engine deck look COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FOR A REASON:

Ye the two best is IWSM then RCSM, RCSM does not have the same level of quality or affects as many vehicles. The author of IWSM is a French Veteran that used to work in the AMX10RC. Man tries to use real life audio as much as possible and get it as close to as possible.

Also, I keep forgetting that IWSM is now named OPEX

Yeah I hope it gets corrected but this post really didn’t attract any attention. The 750HP diesels should also perform better due to torque differences but they often don’t feel that way.
